Results of epidemiological studies have shown that with increasing age, the prevalence of periodontitis in a population increases. Data show that after the age of 40 years, the % of the population affected by periodontitis remains rather constant.

Determinants of onset age in Friedreich’s ataxia
Journal of Neurology, 1998We studied the factors that might influence onset age in Friedreich's ataxia in 41 cases (20 male, 21 female) homozygous for GAA expansion on the first intron of X25 gene. Patients came from 18 multiplex families (13 couples, 5 triplets). Mean age (SD) was 18.1 (8.9) years and did not differ by gender.

Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 1996Recently published literature on the onset of posterior vitreous detachment is reviewed here. Aging causes posterior vitreous detachment, and its prevalence increases proportionally with age. The onset of posterior vitreous detachment is associated with refractive error.

Diabetes Care, 1985The age of onset and the clinical type of diabetes mellitus were evaluated on the basis of a cross-sectional study of medical records of 14 municipal health centers in East Finland. Altogether 281 patients were classified as having insulin-dependent (IDDM) and 2713 as having non-insulin-dependent (NIDDM) diabetes.
