Growth Rings, Growth Ring Formation and Age Determination in the Mangrove Rhizophora mucronata [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Botany, 2004
The mangrove Rhizophora mucronata has previously been reported to lack annual growth rings, thus barring it from dendrochronological studies. In this study the reported absence of the growth rings was reconsidered and the periodic nature of light and dark brown layers visible on polished stem discs investigated.

Protoplanetary Disk Rings and Gaps across Ages and Luminosities [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2019
Abstract Since the discovery of the multiring structure of the HL Tau disk, ALMA data suggest that the dust continuum emission of many, if not all, protoplanetary disks consists of rings and gaps, no matter their spectral type or age. The origin of these gaps so far remains unclear.

Age of Gossip in Ring Networks in the Presence of Jamming Attacks [PDF]

open access: yesAsilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2022
We consider a system with a source which maintains the most current version of a file, and a ring network of $n$ user nodes that wish to acquire the latest version of the file.

Health Benefits of Quercetin in Age-Related Diseases

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
Polyphenols are the known group of phytochemicals that essentially consists of phenolic rings. These are the plant product present in varied fruits and vegetables. These secondary metabolites perform a protective function in plants from environmental and

The IntCal20 Northern Hemisphere Radiocarbon Age Calibration Curve (0–55 cal kBP)

open access: yesRadiocarbon: An International Journal of Cosmogenic Isotope Research, 2020
Radiocarbon (14C) ages cannot provide absolutely dated chronologies for archaeological or paleoenvironmental studies directly but must be converted to calendar age equivalents using a calibration curve compensating for fluctuations in atmospheric 14C ...

On utilization of elliptical rings in assessing cracking tendency of concrete [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A new experimental method by utilizing elliptical rings to replace circular rings recommended by ASTM and AASHTO was explored for assessing cracking potential of concrete and other cement-based materials under restrained condition.

Annual tree rings in Piptadenia gonoacantha (Mart.) J.F.Macbr. in a restoration experiment in the Atlantic Forest: potential for dendroecological research

open access: yesActa Botânica Brasílica, 2016
The tree Piptadenia gonoachantha is widely used in forestry and in forest restoration projects, which require methods for evaluating tree growth. Long-term studies are necessary to determine patterns and detect changes in species growth rhythms.

Some relational structures with polynomial growth and their associated algebras II: Finite generation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The profile of a relational structure $R$ is the function $\varphi_R$ which counts for every integer $n$ the number, possibly infinite, $\varphi_R(n)$ of substructures of $R$ induced on the $n$-element subsets, isomorphic substructures being identified ...

Intermediate-age stars as the origin of low stellar velocity dispersion nuclear rings: the case of Mrk 1157 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We have used the Gemini Near-Infrared Integral-Field Spectrograph to map the age distribution of the stellar population in the inner 400 pc of the Seyfert 2 galaxy Mrk 1157 (NGC 591), at a spatial resolution of 35 pc.
