Age determinations of the open star clusters King 14 and NGC 146 [PDF]

open access: yesComptes rendus de l'Academie bulgare des Sciences 2005, 58, 12, 1363, 2008
We based on 2MASS J and Ks photometry for the open star clusters King 14 and NGC 146, and using color magnitude diagrams with isochrones fit we have found an age of log(age) = 7.8 (63 $\pm$8 Myr) for King 14 and log(age) = 7.5 (32 $\pm$8 Myr) for NGC 146. Our age determination is bigger than given in Lynga [5] (log(age) = 7.2 for King 14 and log(age) =

Six weeks of strength endurance training decreases circulating senescence-prone T-lymphocytes in cytomegalovirus seropositive but not seronegative older women

open access: yesImmunity & Ageing, 2019
Background Ageing is associated with a decline in immune function termed immunosenescence. This process is characterized amongst others by less naive T-cells and more senescent phenotypes, which have been implicated in the pathogenesis of many age ...

On Relative Ageing of Coherent Systems with Dependent Identically Distributed Components [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Relative ageing describes how a system ages with respect to another one. The ageing faster orders are the ones which compare the relative ageings of two systems. Here, we study ageing faster orders in the hazard and the reversed hazard rates. We provide some sufficient conditions for proving that one coherent system dominates another system with ...

Glycine-alanine dipeptide repeats spread rapidly in a repeat length- and age-dependent manner in the fly brain

open access: yesActa Neuropathologica Communications, 2019
Hexanucleotide repeat expansions of variable size in C9orf72 are the most prevalent genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia.

Storying Alzheimer's Disease in Lisa Genova's Still Alice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Taking as its starting point the value of literary studies to work on ageing, this paper explores the contribution of literature to the discourse of ageing and illness, focussing on an illness synonymous with ageing in the cultural imagination ...

Age-Associated Disorders As A Proxy Measure Of Biological Age: Findings From the NLTCS Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2005
Background: The relative contribution of different aging-associated processes to the age phenotype may differ among individuals, creating variability in aging manifestations among age-peers. Capturing this variability can significantly advance understanding the aging and mortality.

Results from the ENJOY MAP for HEALTH: a quasi experiment evaluating the impact of age-friendly outdoor exercise equipment to increase older people’s park visitations and physical activity

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background Recreational parks can play a significant role in older people’s health, with emerging evidence suggesting that changes in the physical environment, such as refurbishments of local parks, can increase park visitations and physical activity ...
