Compulsory Licensing Provision under TRIPS: A Study of Roche vs Natco Case in India vis-à-vis the Applicability of the Principle of Audi Alteram Partem

open access: yesSCRIPTed: A Journal of Law, Technology & Society, 2010
In keeping with the relatively new waiver of the requirement of domestic production under Article 31(f) of TRIPS, the Indian Patents Act 1970 was amended allowing for compulsory license in certain exceptional circumstances.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Agents and the UML: A Unified Notation for Agents and Multi-agent Systems? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Over the last few years, agent-oriented software engineering has promoted the adoption of agents as a first-class paradigm for software engineering in research and industrial development. Agents have been used in research development for more than twenty years, while they still do not find complete acceptance in industrial settings.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Organisational Abstractions for the Analysis and Design of Multi-Agent Systems

open access: yes, 2000
The architecture of a multi-agent system can naturally be viewed as a computational organisation. For this reason, we believe organisational abstractions should play a central role in the analysis and design of such systems.

Economic evaluation of COVID-19 rapid antigen screening programs in the workplace

open access: yesBMC Medicine, 2022
Background Diagnostic testing has been pivotal in detecting SARS-CoV-2 infections and reducing transmission through the isolation of positive cases. We quantified the value of implementing frequent, rapid antigen (RA) testing in the workplace to identify

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Alkene Diversification through a Molecular Recasting Strategy Enabled by N-Heterocyclic Carbene and Photoredox Dual Catalysis

open access: yesResearch
Alkenes are fundamental structural motifs in organic synthesis, valued for their prevalence in natural products and their broad reactivity profile. While traditional de novo synthesis offers access to diverse alkene frameworks, strategies enabling the ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Agents of discovery

open access: yesSciPost Physics
The substantial data volumes encountered in modern particle physics and other domains of fundamental physics research allow (and require) the use of increasingly complex data analysis tools and workflows. While the use of machine learning (ML) tools for data analysis has recently proliferated, these tools are typically special-purpose algorithms that ...
