Abstract The capillary assay of agglutinating-like anti-leukocyte antibodies appears to be a simple, reliable and sensitive technique. A number of factor iin measuring anti-leukocyte agglutinins were investigated to determine the optimum conditions for the method. Concentrations of Ethylene-dinitrilotetraacetic acid (EDTA) and calcium, capillary tube

Agglutination of an Arbovirus by Concanavalin A
Nature New Biology, 1971MANY enveloped viruses contain carbohydrates as components of glycoproteins1–5 or glycolipid6. We have found (unpublished results) that the envelope of Semliki Forest virus (SFV), a group A arbovirus, contains a glycoprotein in which the principal sugars are mannose, galactose and N-acetylglucos-amine and also a glucose-containing glycolipid.

Sperm Agglutination and Infertility
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1973To the Editor.— I would like to comment on the recent article by Pacheco-Romero et al (224:849, 1973), dealing with the relationship of spermagglutinating activity and female infertility. I fear that this report may cause some confusion, because we may question the reliability of the exact technics that were used, and also because of the logic of the ...

In human sera showing elevated levels of IgM, the serum agglutinators may be of both IgG and IgM classes. When the quantity of IgG is very low, these antibodies may be solely of the IgM class. Elevations in IgM levels subsequent to loss of IgG through the kidney, as in nephrosis, and elevations in all immunoglobulin levels, as observed in severe ...

FROM THE FOREGOING EVIDENCE, SPECIFIC BACTERIAL AGGLUTINATION MAY BE CONCEIVED OF AS FOLLOWS: When bacteria are mixed with their homologous agglutinative sera, specific union between organism and agglutinin occurs. This interaction consists of specific coating of the bacteria by globulin. By virtue of the fact, noted by Loeb and illustrated in Fig.

STUDIES IN AGGLUTINATION : I. THE AGGLUTINATION OF STREPTOCOCCI.
The Journal of experimental medicine, 20101. The spontaneous agglutination of streptococci has been studied. 2. This spontaneous agglutination would seem to be caused by the presence of a bacterial cohesive force higher than that usually found when bacteria are suspended in salt solutions of the concentration commonly employed as electrolyte in specific agglutination reactions. 3.

Agglutination of Bacteria by Hemoglobin
Acta Rheumatologica Scandinavica, 1957SummaryA number of antigens from gram-positive bacteria, especially streptococci, are agglutinated by hemoglobin from human, sheep, horse, rabbit and guinea pig blood. The agglutination factor, to which the globin part of the hemoglobin is ascribed, can be removed by various antigens from hemoglobin solutions.Experiments with various antigen fractions ...

Sexual Agglutination in Chlamydomonads
1985Publisher Summary The way cells communicate with each other, interact, and co-ordinate their activities is a fundamental issue in developmental biology. This is particularly true in multicellular organisms, where the controlled division of labor among cells determines form and function of the whole organism as well as its parts.
