On the Stability of the Soluble Amyloid Aggregates [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2009
Many amyloid proteins form metastable soluble aggregates (or protofibrils, or protein nanoparticles, with characteristic sizes from approximately 10 to a few hundred nm). These can coexist with protein monomers and amyloid precipitates. These soluble aggregates are key determinants of the toxicity of these proteins.

Interacting Effects of Land Use Type, Soil Attributes, and Environmental Factors on Aggregate Stability

open access: yesLand, 2023
Soil erosion and surface pollution near reservoirs can adversely affect water quality and safety. Soil aggregate stability is an important predictor of soil water loss and erosion resistance that is strongly influenced by land use.

Effect of Grazing Exclusion and Rotational Grazing on Soil Aggregate Stability in Typical Grasslands in Inner Mongolia, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2022
Soil aggregate is extremely important for soil health and sustainable land management. Overgrazing has caused serious degeneration of grassland in the past decades and how to restore the degraded soil through grazing management is urgently needed.

Biocrust-linked changes in soil aggregate stability along a climatic gradient in the Chilean Coastal Range [PDF]

open access: yesSOIL, 2022
Biological soil crusts (biocrusts) composed of cyanobacteria, bacteria, algae, fungi, lichens, and bryophytes stabilize the soil surface. This effect has mainly been studied in arid climates, where biocrusts constitute the main biological agent to ...

Modelling the Clusters Aggregation and Aggregative Stability of Suspensions

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2023
The work considers the stability factor of disperse systems, which is determined by the rate of their aggregation. The novelty of submitted work is that the original heuristic model allowing for evaluating the elements of the aggregation matrix with moving from an infinite chain of aggregation equations to a closed finite system of equations has been ...

Aggregate stability affects carbon sequestration potential of different tropical soils

open access: yesAnnals of Tropical Research, 2018
Aggregate stability and carbon (C) sequestration in soils are closely related phenomena. However, high aggregate stability does not always ensure high carbon sequestration to some soil types since other binding agents could dominate other than carbon ...

Aggregate stability in soils cultivated with eucalyptus

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira, 2011
The objective of this work was to evaluate the aggregate stability of tropical soils under eucalyptus plantation and native vegetation, and assess the relationships between aggregate stability and some soil chemical and physical properties.

Effects of freeze-thaw cycles on the size distribution and stability of soil aggregate in the permafrost regions of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Communications, 2023
As the basic units of soil structure, soil aggregate is essential for maintaining soil stability. Intensified freeze–thaw cycles have deeply affected the size distribution and stability of aggregate under global warming.

Mixed planting improves soil aggregate stability and aggregate-associated C-N-P accumulation in subtropical China

open access: yesFrontiers in Forests and Global Change, 2023
Research on the variations in soil aggregate stability and ecological stoichiometry at aggregate scales by stand type is of great significance in investigating the distribution, limitation, balance, and cycling of organic carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus

Aggregate-Size Stability Distribution and Soil Stability

open access: yesSoil Science Society of America Journal, 2004
A new theoretical and experimental framework that permits an accurate determination of aggregate‐size stability distribution is presented. The size‐stability distribution in addition to estimating aggregate‐size distribution distinguishes between amounts of stable and unstable macroaggregates (>250 μm).
