Crop residues and their derived biochar are frequently used for their potential to improve grain yield, soil fertility and carbon (C) sequestration. However, the effects of root are often overlooked, and the effects of chemical fertilizer (NPK) combined ...

Converting oak woodland or savanna to vineyards may stress groundwater supply in summer
Water resources are important to land-use planning, especially in regions where converting native oak woodlands or savannas to wine grape vineyards may affect the amount of water available for restoring salmon runs.

A residual‐charge‐induced electric field control (SDREC) strategy enables the fabrication of patterned microstructure arrays with a resolution of 20 µm via the selective deposition of charged droplets. The resulting arrays exhibit reversible writing/erasing, optical encryption, and selective silver electrode formation, offering a versatile route to ...

Soil characteristics and ecological thresholds of Suaeda salsa wetlands
Suaeda salsa is an annual euhalophyte, with a wide ecological amplitude and strong adaptability to environmental stresses, that is commonly found in estuarine wetlands. Soil properties of wetlands have an important influence on S. salsa growth. Therefore,

Optimal Grazing Exclusion Duration to Enhance Soil Carbon Sequestration in Degraded Grasslands
Across China, grazing exclusion reaches the national mean soil organic carbon recovery benchmark sooner in high‐MAP regions (> 500 mm), but recovery is much slower where MAP < 300 mm. Scaling this strategy to 70% of China's degraded grasslands would sequester about 1.52 Pg of soil carbon over 10 years—roughly 17% of annual global fossil‐fuel emissions.

Ferroptosis: The Demise of Cells Through Phospholipid Peroxidation
The relative abundance of peroxidation‐resistant monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) vs. peroxidation‐sensitive polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) incorporated into phospholipid (PL) is a key determinant of ferroptosis sensitivity, as the peroxidation of PL PUFA acyl chains (PUFA‐PL) disrupts membrane integrity, causing ferroptotic cell death ...

A Genomic Catalog of Migratory Microbiomes from Wild Birds across China's Habitats
ABSTRACT Migratory birds play an important role in the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR); however, gaps in surveillance data from vital regions along migratory flyways across China limit the detection of emergent threats. Here, we assembled 340 metagenomes from 52 bird species covering 11 provincial administrative districts in China, presenting ...
