Continuous Evolution System Based on Toxin–Antitoxin System Combined with Base Deaminase Accelerates the In Vivo Modification of Target Proteins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The promoted Escherichia coli‐assisted continuous evolution (PEACE) system operates through a stringent three step genetic circuit: target gene mutation via a deaminase–T7 RNA polymerase (T7 RNAP) fusion, coupling variant function to antitoxin expression, and growth based selection of surviving cells.

Agricultural land-use and biological conservation [PDF]

open access: yes
Land use change is a main driver of biodiversity erosion, especially in agricultural landscapes. Incentive-based land-use policies aim at influence land-use pattern, and are usually evaluated with habitat suitability scores, without accounting explicitly

Single‐Cell Transcriptomics and Metabolomics Reveal Glutamate Dehydrogenase as a Central Regulator of Nitrogen Metabolic Remodeling During Alkalinity Adaptation in Crustaceans

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Single‐cell transcriptomics reveals the cellular response of Macrobrachium hainanense to carbonate alkalinity stress. Alkalinity stress impairs branchial ammonia excretion, induces mitochondrial dysfunction, and drives cell‐type‐specific changes in gills and hemocytes.

Combined metabolome and transcriptome reveal HmF6’H1 regulating simple coumarin accumulation against powdery mildew infection in Heracleum moellendorffii Hance

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background Powdery mildew, caused by Eeysiphe heraclei, seriously threatens Heracleum moellendorffii Hance. Plant secondary metabolites are essential to many activities and are necessary for defense against biotic stress.

Optimising the spatial pattern of landscape revegetation [PDF]

open access: yes
The spatial pattern of landscape reconstruction makes a substantial difference to environmental outcomes. We develop a spatially explicit bio-economic model that optimises the reconstruction of a heavily cleared landscape through revegetation.

Bio‐Inspired Gradient Coatings Enhance the Leading Edge Erosion Resistance of Wind Blades

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Rain‐induced erosion of the wind turbine blade leading edge poses a critical challenge to maintenance and operation. Here, we propose a bio‐inspired approach for erosion protection utilising a platelet‐reinforced polyurethane coating with a graded through‐thickness architecture.

Decay Resistance of Pterocarpus erinaceus Poir. and the Antifungal Properties of its Extract

open access: yesBioResources, 2023
The processing residue of Pterocarpus erinaceus was used to obtain an ethanol-extract, whose anti-fungal properties and mode of action was investigated using multi-omics principles and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Integrated land use modelling of agri-environmental measures to maintain biodiversity at landscape level [PDF]

open access: yes
Integrated land use models (ILM) are increasingly applied tools for the joint assessment of complex economic-environmental farming system interactions.

The Landscape of Long Non‐Coding RNAs Provides Insights Into the Domestication and Improvement of Pear Fruit

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that long non‐coding RNAs represent important regulatory components underlying pear domestication and improvement. Integrative multi‐omics analyses identify selected lncRNAs associated with fruit traits, while functional validation uncovers a lignin‐related lncRNA, lncRNA‐pys, that promotes lignin accumulation.
