AIIRA: AI Institute for Resilient Agriculture

open access: yesAI Magazine
AbstractAIIRA seeks to transform agriculture by creating a new AI‐driven framework for modeling plants at various agronomically relevant scales. We accomplish this by designing and deploying AI‐driven predictive models that fuse diverse data with siloed domain knowledge.AIIRA's vision, illustrated in Figure 1, consists of four technical thrusts with ...

An Effector TaCRVP From Tuta Absoluta Oral Secretion Impairs H2O2‐Mediated Plant Defense by Targeting Tomato SlCAT2

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Tuta absoluta salivary effector TaCRVP subverts tomato immunity by hijacking host catalase SlCAT2. Through a sophisticated dual mechanism, TaCRVP simultaneously promotes SlCAT2 tetramerization for activation and blocks its SlAdBiL‐mediated degradation for stabilization.

MATHEMATICAL MODELING OF DROUGHT RESILIENCE IN AGRICULTURE

open access: yesNatural Resource Modeling, 2012
Abstract.  Ensuring drought resilience for farmers is an important policy concern. Yet, a quantitative treatment of the concept of drought resilience has been lacking in the literature. This paper designs a mathematical model of drought resilience to assess farmers’ survival strategies when faced with the prospect of repeated droughts.

Atmospheric Water Harvesting Through Polymer Hydrogel Sorbents: Materials Chemistry, Design Strategies, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Polymer‐based hydrogels have emerged as promising materials for atmospheric water harvesting (AWH) due to their high water affinity, tunable network structure, and excellent moisture adsorption‐desorption performance. Functional hydrogel systems enable efficient water capture and controlled release under low‐energy conditions, offering a sustainable ...

Anticipatory Understanding of Resilient Agriculture to Climate

open access: yesCoRR
With billions of people facing moderate or severe food insecurity, the resilience of the global food supply will be of increasing concern due to the effects of climate change and geopolitical events. In this paper we describe a framework to better identify food security hotspots using a combination of remote sensing, deep learning, crop yield modeling,

Isosorbide‐Based Optically Clear Adhesives With Ultrahigh Transparency and Rapid Strain Recovery for Flexible Displays

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Biomass‐derived isosorbide‐based PUDA crosslinker enables optically clear adhesives with ultrahigh transparency (99.8%), rapid strain recovery, and stable adhesion for flexible displays. ABSTRACT Flexible and foldable displays require optically clear adhesives (OCAs) that combine ultrahigh optical transparency with mechanical resilience under repeated ...

TECTB Variants Reveal Tectorial Membrane Vulnerability in Dominant Non‐Syndromic Hearing Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TECTB is a non‐collagenous protein of the tectorial membrane – an extracellular matrix of the cochlea. This study identifies dominant missense variants in TECTB linked to human hereditary deafness in two unrelated families. Genetically engineered mice homozygous for one of the variants are profoundly deaf, whereas heterozygous mice have normal hearing ...

Functional–Taxonomic Scaling Resolves Conflicting Average Genome Size Estimates Across Environmental Gradients

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Based on genome size‐functional breadth theory, we introduce and validate a framework that adjudicates conflicting average genome size (AGS) estimates by testing which estimate yields a gap between scaled functional diversity and scaled taxonomic diversity that is consistent with the expected positive association between genome size and gene functional
