Late blight pathogen targets host Rab‐G3 GTPases with an atypical GTPase‐activating protein

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
The Phytophthora infestans RXLR effector Pi17063 functions as an atypical GTPase‐activating protein of host positive immune regulators, specifically the small GTPase NbRab‐G3. Pi17063 promotes the relocalization of NbRab‐G3 proteins to the cytoplasm, where they are inactive, disrupting the balance of the NbRab‐G3 switch and thus leading to enhanced ...

OsPRK1/2/3‐mediated reactive oxygen species signaling is required for pollen tube germination in rice

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
The rice pollen‐specific receptor‐like kinases OsPRK1, OsPRK2, and OsPRK3 play a crucial role in reactive oxygen species (ROS)‐mediated pollen hydration and germination. Triple mutants display male sterility due to decreased ROS levels and impaired pollen hydration, and their germination phenotype can be partially restored by exogenous application of ...

TaSED interacts with TaSPA synergistically regulating SDS‐sedimentation volume in bread wheat

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Wheat TaSED is a positive regulator of SDS‐sedimentation volume, an indicator of gluten strength and thus baking properties. TaSED interacts with the transcription factor TaSPA regulating wheat storage protein gene expression, altering protein composition and affecting SDS‐sedimentation volume, providing a valuable genetic resource for improving wheat ...

Acid-Induced Type VI Secretion System Is Regulated by ExoR-ChvG/ChvI Signaling Cascade in Agrobacterium tumefaciens

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2012
The type VI secretion system (T6SS) is a widespread, versatile protein secretion system in pathogenic Proteobacteria. Several T6SSs are tightly regulated by various regulatory systems at multiple levels.

Transcription activator‐like effectors of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae hijack host transcriptional regulation through OsWRKYs

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
TALEs from Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae enter rice cells via the Type III secretion system and manipulate OsWRKY transcription factors. The TALE Xoo1219 activates OsWRKY104, enhancing susceptibility by inducing OsSWEET genes, and Xoo2145 activates OsWRKY55, which suppresses defense via OsWRKY62.

Solanum bulbocastanum nucleotide‐binding leucine‐rich repeat receptor evolution reveals functional variants and critical residues in Rpi‐blb1/RB

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Natural variants of the nucleotide‐binding leucine‐rich repeat protein Rpi‐blb1/RB in Solanum bulbocastanum recognize the Phytophthora infestans effector IPI‐O4, as well as two non‐functional variants. The S347N mutation disrupts IPI‐O1 recognition, Rpi‐blb1/RB self‐association and subcellular relocalisation, thereby compromising resistance.

Deep sequencing uncovers numerous small RNAs on all four replicons of the plant pathogen Agrobacterium tumefaciens

open access: yesRNA Biology, 2012
Agrobacterium species are capable of interkingdom gene transfer between bacteria and plants. The genome of Agrobacterium tumefaciens consists of a circular and a linear chromosome, the At-plasmid and the Ti-plasmid, which harbors bacterial virulence ...
