Antibacterial Essential Oils as Adjuvants to Inhibit Antibiotic Resistance in Multidrug-resistant Bacteria. [PDF]
Combining bacterially inactivated antibiotics with antibacterial essential oils (EOs) is an alternative combinatorial therapy against antibiotic‐resistant bacteria, as EOs can also modulate resistance. Apart from the rehabilitation of the antibiotic, this combination is probably more difficult to overcome evolutionarily due to the antibacterial mixture

Opportunities to reduce pollination deficits and address production shortfalls in an important insect-pollinated crop. [PDF]
Abstract Pollinators face multiple pressures and there is evidence of populations in decline. As demand for insect‐pollinated crops increases, crop production is threatened by shortfalls in pollination services. Understanding the extent of current yield deficits due to pollination and identifying opportunities to protect or improve crop yield and ...

Providing sufficient pollen and nectar resources to support wild pollinators over extended periods in agricultural landscapes can contribute to crop pollination and ensure high fruit weight and quality. This can be achieved by restoring natural and semi‐natural areas near crop fields with native, long‐flowering plant species.

Peanut monoculture‐induced decline in fertility of Andosols in Nicaragua
Abstract Background Andosols are generally characterized by strong resilience to degradation and high soil fertility. This may decline during long‐term peanut (Arachis hypogea) monoculture, as indicated by soil chemical and biological properties. Aims The study investigated the monoculture‐induced changes in soil chemical environment as driver for the ...

Using land‐use history and multiple baselines to determine bird responses to cocoa agroforestry
Abstract Agroforests can play an important role in biodiversity conservation in complex landscapes. A key factor distinguishing among agroforests is land‐use history – whether agroforests are established inside forests or on historically forested but currently open lands.

Soil macroinvertebrate communities: A world‐wide assessment
Abstract Aim Macroinvertebrates comprise a highly diverse set of taxa with great potential as indicators of soil quality. Communities were sampled at 3,694 sites distributed world‐wide. We aimed to analyse the patterns of abundance, composition and network characteristics and their relationships to latitude, mean annual temperature and rainfall, land ...

Abstract Restoring the degraded Atlantic Forest is one of the biggest conservation challenges in Brazil. In a biome with high human presence, understanding the potential for restoration approaches, such as agroforestry, to provide benefits to smallholder farmers and biodiversity is essential in developing equitable restoration strategies.

Mycorrhizal science outreach: Scope of action and available resources in the face of global change
Mycorrhizal associations are acknowledged as key components of global ecosystem functioning. This is especially relevant in the context of global change, since they contribute to the amelioration of adverse soil conditions and play crucial roles in agriculture.

Fast recovery of soil macrofauna in regenerating forests of the Amazon
This study presents new evidence on the recovery of soil macrofauna community in regenerating forests of the Amazon. The authors found that the richness and diversity of broad taxonomic macrofauna groups recover relatively fast, matching results recently published for plants and vertebrates.

Open access repository for the brazilian literature on agroecology. [PDF]
The Brazilian technical and scientific literature on Agroecology is plentiful, is scattered and of difficult access and the hypothesis is that the knowledge of the area was produced but is composed by a knowledge to be organized.
