Bio‐Based Solvents Extraction and Enzyme‐assisted Recovery of Furan Fatty Acid From Ammonia‐Stabilized Hevea Latex

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Lipid Science and Technology, EarlyView.
The latex of Hevea brasiliensis is rich in furan fatty acid (FuFA) esterified in both neutral and polar lipids. Bio‐based solvents to extract FuFA from ammonia‐stabilized latex was tested. Ethyl acetate worked best, especially with low‐ammonia content. Isopropanol was a good alternative. Lipases could also help to efficiently release FuFA. The findings

From waste to resource: Garlic peel‐derived proteases (Allium sativum) for nematode control

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress &Sustainable Energy, EarlyView.
Abstract This study aimed to prepare a protease‐rich extract from garlic peel (Allium sativum) and evaluate its nematicidal potential. The garlic peel was crushed, suspended in distilled water, and the obtained extract was subjected to filtration, centrifugation, and dialysis to concentrate the proteases. The nematicidal activity was tested in vitro on

Structure Properties of Gallic Acid‐Enhanced Alginate Hydrogels for Sustainable Food Packaging as Plastic Replacement

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Structure properties of alginate and glycerol hydrogels (93:7 v/v) functionalized with gallic acid (0.1%, 0.5%, and 0.8%) (w/v) were evaluated as plastic alternatives for food packaging. A thorough characterization of these hydrogels was performed, evaluating their physico‐mechanical, optical, and functional properties, particularly for ...
