MicroRNA 399 as a potential integrator of photo-response, phosphate homeostasis, and sucrose signaling under long day condition

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2018
Background Photoperiod-sensitivity is a critical endogenous regulatory mechanism for plant growth and development under specific environmental conditions, while phosphate and sucrose signaling processes play key roles in cell growth and organ initiation.

Pathogenic Escherichia coli Virulome in Top Soil Improvers and Irrigation Waters Devoted to Leafy Vegetable Production: Hazard Assessment From a Case Study in Italy

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Escherichia coli pathotype virulotyping to assess if combined top soil improver and water inputs would potentially lead to hybrid strains with shuffled virulence features in ready‐to‐eat vegetables. This is to support the transition toward safe and sustainable food production systems.

Selection of meadow fescue for persistence under frequent defoliation

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Meadow fescue was adapted to management intensive grazing in humid temperate regions. It does not tolerate highly intensive grazing with short rest periods or residual sward heights below 5 cm. This paper documents genetic progress in selecting for improved tolerance to frequent and close grazing.

Dual‐pronged genome engineering: Enhancing crop resistance through elite allele pyramiding and susceptibility gene editing

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Developing durable crop disease resistance remains a primary breeding objective, achievable through pyramiding resistance genes and editing susceptibility (S) genes. A recent study identified 10 stable Verticillium wilt resistance genes and eight negative regulators via integrated genome‐wide association studies and transcriptome‐wide association ...

Uncertain multi‐objective programming approach for planning supplementary irrigation areas in rainfed agricultural regions

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
Abstract Rainfed agriculture is crucial for ensuring global food and water security, and supplementary irrigation is an effective means of improving the economic benefits in rainfed agricultural regions. This study proposes a novel uncertain optimization approach to optimize supplementary irrigation areas in rainfed agricultural regions.

Modelling of Cowpea Response to Varying Irrigation and SAP Levels Under Greenhouse Conditions Using AquaCrop

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Irrigation water management is key to promoting resilient crop production amidst the increasing effects of climate change. Super absorbent polymer (SAP) is an innovative technology for conserving irrigation water within arid and semi‐arid lands (ASALs). AquaCrop, a water productivity model, has been used for irrigation water management.

Explainability of Sub-Field Level Crop Yield Prediction using Remote Sensing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Crop yield forecasting plays a significant role in addressing growing concerns about food security and guiding decision-making for policymakers and farmers. When deep learning is employed, understanding the learning and decision-making processes of the models, as well as their interaction with the input data, is crucial for establishing trust in the ...

Field efficacy of Gliding Arc Plasma Activated Water and natural products on tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) late blight [Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary] severity

open access: yesAgricultura Tropica et Subtropica
This study aimed to evaluate the field efficacy of plasma-activated water (PAW) as a novel technology in agriculture together with vinegar, sodium bicarbonate, and plant aqueous extracts against tomato late blight in a complete randomised block design ...

Deficit Irrigation and Soil Amendment as Drought Adaptation Strategies: Water Use Efficiency in Pot Experiments With Wheat

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Amidst climate change and recurring droughts, increasing irrigation water amount and frequency alone is not a definitive solution to address water scarcity in agricultural crop production, particularly in soils with poor water retention capacity. This study evaluated the effects of two drought adaptation strategies (deficit irrigation and soil
