This thesis examines the risks that artificial intelligence (AI) poses to the fundamental right to privacy and provides a comprehensive analysis of the AI Act in light of these risks. It argues that the AI Act, while an important milestone for AI governance in the EU, does not sufficiently safeguard individuals’ privacy.
