Physical and numerical modelling of air-water flows: An Introductory Overview
Environmental Modelling and Software, 2021In free-surface turbulent flows, large amount of air may be entrapped and advected in the water current. The resulting air-water flows are frequently observed in natural water systems, where they are also relevant to water quality, ecological sustainability and integrated assessment within such systems.

Measurements of the speed of sound in air-water flows
Chemical Engineering Journal, 1997Abstract Pressure transducer measurements, recorded while calibrating two conductivity-based, void fraction meters, show how the propagation velocity of pressure waves in bubbly air-water flows varies with void fraction. The results for void fractions between 0 and 0.5 indicate that, as expected, the propagation velocities in an air-water mixture are

International Journal of Multiphase Flow, 1996
Abstract The effect of air-flow on shockwaves is determined both experimentally and analytically. It is found that model observations conducted with pure water flows may be extended to prototype flow with an aerated flow, by accounting for the mixture shock number.

Flow induced patterning at the air–water interface
Physics of Fluids, 2003Patterns on the air–water interface of a swirling cylinder flow are produced via hydrodynamic symmetry-breaking instability of the bulk flow. The patterns are rotating waves breaking the axisymmetry of the system and are longitudinal at the free surface (i.e., not surface deforming).

Air-water flow in bottom outlets
Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 2000Bottom outlets involve high-velocity air-water flow. Depending on the tunnel length, both air entrainment and air detrainment processes are significant. These processes are evaluated using a hydraulic model consisting of a long rectangular tunnel with a bottom slope larger than the critical slope.

Flow patterns in two-phase air-water flow
International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, 1997Abstract This paper studied the flow patterns transition in two-phase gas-liquid flow and proposed a set of standardised flow pattern terminology though experimental observations. Experiments were conducted in an air-water two-phase system consisting of a horizontal, 10 m long, 25.4 mm diameter pipeline.

Unsteady air?water flow measurements in sudden open channel flows [PDF]
Measurements of air-water flow properties are reasonably simple in steady flows, but not so in unsteady flows. Some studies investigated periodic flows in which instantaneous data were averaged over several cycles. During the present work, new unsteady air-water flow measurements were performed in sudden open channel flow surges.

Evaluation of Air -- Water Flow in an Evaporative Condenser
2009 3rd Southern Conference on Computational Modeling, 2009Evaporative condensers present a hard problem fornumerical modeling because of the complex phenomena of heatand mass transfer outside of the bundle tubes in turbulent flows. The goal of this work is to study the air and water behavior inside an evaporative condenser operating with ammonia as the refrigerant fluid.
