Development of Correlations for Pressure Drop in Vertical Helical Tubes with Non-Boiling Two-Phase Air/Water Flow: An Experimental Study [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering
Helical tubes have a tightly wrapped construction that is very efficient and provides excellent stability for managing two-phase flows. They also exhibit good thermal performance.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Heat Transfer of Air-Water Dispersed Flow in a Vertical Pipe.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series B, 1997
Heat transfer of air-water dispersed flow in a vertical heating pipe and its enhancement have been studied. The axial and circumferential wall temperature distributions were measured using various mist ratios and wall heat fluxes. The measured wall temperature increased sharply at a particular streamwise location, with a notable variation in the ...

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Experimental Investigation of Runback Water Flow Behavior on Aero-Engine Rotating Spinners with Different Wettabilities

open access: yesAerospace
The accumulation of ice on the aero-engine inlet compromises engine safety. Traditional hot air anti-icing systems, which utilize bleed air, require substantial energy, decreasing engine performance and increasing emissions.

Air-Water Flow Properties In Highly Unsteady Flows

open access: yesCoastLab 2024: Physical Modelling in Coastal Engineering and Science
Recent catastrophic events caused by tsunamis, storm surges, flood waves, and the failure of dams (e.g. in Ukraine and Libya) have shown to be a significant threat to densely populated coastal communities. Interactions with built environments can lead to violent wave impacts that may have severe consequences, including significant infrastructural ...

β‐Catenin/c‐Myc Axis Modulates Autophagy Response to Different Ammonia Concentrations

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2025.
Ammonia, detoxified by the liver into urea and glutamine, impacts autophagy differently at varying levels. Low ammonia activates autophagy via c‐Myc and β‐catenin, while high levels suppress it. Using Huh7 cells and Spf‐ash mice, c‐Myc's role in cytoprotective autophagy is revealed, offering insights into hyperammonemia and potential therapeutic ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Analysis of air-water structure in self-aerated developing region of open channel flows

open access: yesShui kexue jinzhan, 2014
To investigate the air-water structural characteristic of the self-aerated developing zone in the open channel flow, the bubble size and quantity changes with the self-aeration development were evaluated experimentally, using a double-tip conductivity ...

An introduction to air-water flows in hydraulics

open access: yes, 2015
This report has been written as a contribution to the HYDRAULIC STRUCTURES DESIGN MANUAL, which is in preparation by the International Association for Hydraulic Research (IAHR). Within this framework, a series of monographs is being planned, in which the hydraulic design criteria for civil engineering structures are to be collected.
