Numerical, Experimental, and Full-Scale Investigations of a Passive Air-Lubrication System for High-Speed Craft

SNAME 14th International Marine Design Conference, 2022
There is an increasing interest in air-lubrication systems for high-speed craft and the high potential for optimisation to decrease further skin-friction and consequently greenhouse gas emissions. In this paper the focus will be on a passive air-lubrication system, which does not require dedicated energy extensive compressor system to pump the air.

Study of an Air-Oil Pump and Separator Solution for Aero Engine Lubrication Systems

Volume 2: Aircraft Engine; Coal, Biomass and Alternative Fuels; Cycle Innovations, 2013
Lubrication system of aero engines have to manage a two-phase flow of oil and air created in air-sealed bearing chambers. A part of this flow goes through scavenge pumps and a de-aerator before returning to the tank, the other part passes through a de-oiler before leaving the engine. Influence of Volumetric Capacity on Energy Consumption in Oil-Lubricated Compressed Air Systems

Journal of Thermal Science and Engineering Applications, 2016
The aim of this research is to estimate the influence of compressed air volumetric capacity on the energy consumption in systems equipped with oil-lubricated screw compressors. A mathematical model of oil-lubricated screw compressors has been proposed.

Starvation in Ball Bearing Lubricated by Oil and Air Lubrication System

1998
An oil and air lubrication system for ball bearings supporting a high speed spindle maintains friction losses and temperature rises in low level comparing with other lubrication systems, e.g., oil jet or oil mist lubrication. In this study, rotating speeds of the ball in an angular contact ball bearing lubricated by the oil and air lubrication system ...

Effective oil/air ratio in industrial oil mist lubricating systems

Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 2007
PurposeTo provide information on the distribution of oil deposition inside the pipe conducting oil mist used for lubricating purposes and to show resulting variations of oil/air ratio.Design/methodology/approachThe model of an industrial pipeline has been assembled ranging more than 100 m away from the oil mist source, equipped with devices collecting ...

Transportation and Transformation of Air Bubbles in Aerated Oil through an Engine Lubrication System

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2004
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The amount of free air in an engine oil can affect the performance of some engine components. Part of the air in an aerated oil can be dissolved into the oil, while some may remain as free air when the oil reaches these components.

Investigation of the ball-bearing temperature rise under an oil-air lubrication system

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2001
Ball-bearings are widely used on many high-speed rotating systems. However, heat generation and dynamic loading caused by high-speed operation have been the limiting factors for increasing the speed limit of many high-speed ball-bearing applications. Therefore, providing proper lubrication and preload to reduce heat generation effectively is a major ...

The Characteristics of the Annular Flow through the Sudden-Expansion Pipe of the Oil-Air Lubrication System

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
The characteristics of the sudden-expansion pipe in oil-air lubrication system have been analyzed based on Fluent. The results show that the pressure and oil film mutate when the annular flow through the sudden-expansion pipe and the suddenly change of position of pressure and film is not affected by the inlet air velocity, however, the strength of ...
