Ultra‐Effective Light‐Activated Antibacterial Activity via Carboxyl Functionalized Graphene Quantum Dots and Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Carboxyl‐functionalized graphene quantum dots (cGQDs) exhibit high singlet oxygen quantum yield due to strong spin–orbit coupling. cGQDs achieve minimum bactericidal concentration of only 0.4 µg mL−1 against S. aureus under low‐intensity illumination.

BioGAN: An unpaired GAN-based image to image translation model for microbiological images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
A diversified dataset is crucial for training a well-generalized supervised computer vision algorithm. However, in the field of microbiology, generation and annotation of a diverse dataset including field-taken images are time consuming, costly, and in some cases impossible.

Radiation‐Resistant Bacteria Deinococcus radiodurans‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles as Potential Radioprotectors

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Deinococcus radiodurans‐derived extracellular vesicles (R1‐EVs) provide radioprotection against total‐body irradiation‐induced acute radiation syndrome in mice. R1‐EVs mitigate oxidative damage by scavenging free radicals, promoting intestinal repair, enhancing hematopoietic function, and modulating immune responses. This study highlights the potential

Neurons upregulate PD-L1 via IFN/STAT1/IRF1 to alleviate damage by CD8+ T cells in cerebral malaria

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation
Background Cerebral malaria (CM) is the most lethal complication of malaria, and survivors usually endure neurological sequelae. Notably, the cytotoxic effect of infiltrating Plasmodium-activated CD8+ T cells on cerebral microvasculature endothelial ...

Diagnosis and evaluation of fungi presence in the air of two different ventilation sytems for broiler houses

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Poultry Science, 2005
Intensive broiler production in tropical climates requires adequate air circulation to control heat stress. Excess of air speed may lead to dust production and reduction of air quality and, consequently, production parameters.

Sustainable Smart Packaging from Protein Nanofibrils

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Smart packaging can extend shelf life and improve food quality monitoring. This study introduces a novel smart packaging solution using amyloid fibrils and red radish anthocyanins to monitor seafood spoilage. These findings show that these films effectively indicate shrimp freshness and possess high antibacterial and antioxidant properties, offering a ...
