Soil-Air exchange controls on background atmospheric concentrations of organochlorine pesticides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Soils are the major terrestrial reservoir of persistent organic pollutants, and thus net volatilization from soil, when it happens, may exert a control on the atmospheric occurrence and variability of organic pollutants.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

RoundMi: A quantitative method to analyze mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
RoundMi is a workflow for rapid analysis of mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells. By combining adaptive preprocessing with automated segmentation and quantification, it enables accurate measurements from single focal plane images, reducing acquisition time and computational demands while remaining compatible with high‐throughput fixed and live ...

Patterns of air temperature changes in air ducts of non-contact air heating or cooling systems [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
The article is devoted to the study of the patterns of changes in air temperature during its movement in a sheet steel air duct during the operation of non-contact air heating systems, when the temperature of the moving air through the duct is higher ...

Comparison of air temperature measured in a vineyard canopy and at a standard weather station.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
The complex environment within a crop canopy leads to a high variability of the air temperature within the canopy, and, therefore, air temperature measured at a weather station (WS) does not represent the internal energy within a crop.

Air flow management inside data centres [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A data centre can be defined as an infrastructure facility that houses file servers, processors and other computer equipment, along with a standby power supply. These servers are kept inside cabinets and those cabinets are called racks.

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Performance Analysis of Volumetric Solar Receiver Based on Porous Foam Ceramics

open access: yes发电技术, 2019
Volumetric solar receiver is one of three main categories of solar receivers. It has great application prospect due to the simple structure, high thermal efficiency, and the air exit temperature can reach above more than 800℃. The porous material is used

Experimental and analytical performance investigation of air to air two phase closed thermosyphon based heat exchangers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In recent years, the use of wickless heat pipes (thermosyphons) in heat exchangers has been on the rise, particularly in gas to gas heat recovery applications due to their reliability and the level of contingency they offer compared to conventional heat ...

Numerical simulation of a hot-air cleaning fan for the combine harvester.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
This study aimed to improve the separation efficiency of damp crops by developing a hot-air cleaning fan. First, the aerodynamic performance of two fans with different inlet structures was compared.
