Air traffic control

New Scientist, 2008
Determining how the controller (or air navigation service provider) of the future will function in tomorrow's Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) will require an understanding of the existing literature. In this chapter, after an analysis of the controller's job, we focus on technology, which is an important factor in air traffic ...

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL

Nature, 2000
Molecular traffic can spontaneously direct itself along a network of channels. Philip Ball explains how this could be used to separate large molecules from small.

The Air-Traffic Controller

1978
To the layman, air-traffic control is one of the more exotic jobs created by advanced technology, on a par with computers, high speed aircraft and complex chemical plant. For the applied psychologist, too, it presents a variety of interesting facets : it is a very new profession, concerned with rapidly developing procedures and equipment, and there is ...

Predicting Air Traffic Density in an Air Traffic Control Sector

ECS Transactions, 2022
Air traffic over Indian skies continues to increase rapidly and due to this increased demand, efforts must be made to efficiently balance demand with capacity. Air traffic flow management is a concept that allows for better demand and capacity management. It helps airlines plan routes and schedule flights.

Air Traffic Control

1970
Abstract : The report covers the development of improved surveillance and communication subsystems to meet the demands of the automated NAS/ARTS Air Traffic Control system. Field measurements of the beacon interference environment were completed and studies to upgrade sensor efficiency were intensified.

The Case of Air Traffic Control

2017
Air traffic controllers have to guarantee safe and efficient air traffic by predicting future flight paths based on their perception and interpretation of multiple data on the radar display. The multitasking nature of their job makes the cognitive and emotional processes required in air traffic control fundamentally different from those traditionally ...

Ground traffic surveillance system for Air Traffic control

2012 12th International Conference on ITS Telecommunications, 2012
In this paper a framework for an airport ground traffic surveillance system based on visual information is presented. The framework is designed to improve state-of-the-art Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems (A-SMGCS) adding an image processing module able to act as a “gap-filler” for airport zones that traditional systems fail to ...

Synthesis of Remote Air Traffic Control System and Air Traffic Controllers’ Perceptions

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2016
Airports face financial constraints in the use of services of air traffic control (ATC) towers. The remote air traffic control system (RATCS) is anticipated to be an economical and safe alternative to a control tower. RATCS is a concept intended to supply ATC to an airport by providing communication, navigation, and surveillance from a remote location.

Fatigue and Stress in Air Traffic Controllers

Ergonomics, 1971
Abstract Fatigue was measured on 68 air traffic controllers using the following methods: critical fusion frequency (CFF), tapping test, grid tapping test, self-rating. The measurements were taken 9 times within 24 hours over 3 weeks. Stress was measured on the basis of a questionnaire and of catecholamine excretion in urine.
