Nonsterile Cultivation of the Thermophilic Cyanobacterium Parathermosynechococcus lividus PCC 6715 in a Floating Light Ball Reactor (FLBR) on 53‐L Scale for Zeaxanthin Production

open access: yesChemFoodChem, Volume 2, Issue 3, September 2026.
We demonstrate cultivation of the thermophilic cyanobacterium Parathermosynechococcus lividus PCC 6715 at 40–55°C and 4 × 53 L scale using a Floating Light Ball Reactor (FLBR). The system enabled continuous illumination, non‐sterile operation with low contamination, flexible handling, and zeaxanthin production of 1.4–2.0 mg g−1, supporting future ...

Preparation and Infection of Bovine Precision‐Cut Lung Slices (b‐PCLS) as an Ex Vivo Model for Respiratory Pathogens

open access: yesCurrent Protocols, Volume 6, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Precision‐cut lung slices (PCLS) represent a physiologically relevant ex vivo model that bridges the gap between simplified in vitro systems and in vivo animal studies by preserving native lung architecture, cellular diversity, and functional responses.

Toward Repurposing Global Passive Air Sampling Networks for Insect Monitoring: Promises and Pitfalls of Airborne eDNA

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 5, September‐October 2026.
Our key findings show that polyurethane passive air samplers can sample insects, although highly abundant insects tend to be overrepresented. Our results also suggest that airborne eDNA might give us a broad temporal image of the insect communities over several weeks, rather than a snapshot of when samples are collected.

eDNA Analysis for Native Cavity‐Nesting Bee Ecology: A Comparison of Data From Brood Cells Contents and Larval DNA

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 5, September‐October 2026.
Artificial bee homes become eDNA reservoirs of insect, plant, fungal, and bacterial taxa providing a non‐invasive way to assess the ecology of wild bee larvae. ABSTRACT While the colonial honeybee is widely recognized by the public as a pollinator, thousands of native bees play an important but often under‐recognized role.

Integrated one‐pot CRISPR‐Cas detection: Addressing strategies and future prospects

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, Volume 4, Issue 5, September 2026.
Integrated one‐pot CRISPR‐Cas detection significantly simplifies workflows, reduces cross‐contamination risks, and shortens turnaround times, making it highly suitable for point‐of‐care testing (POCT) and resource‐limited settings. Key challenges include system compatibility issues between Cas proteins and isothermal amplification, limited multiplexing

Role of methanotrophy in a high‐methane emitting thermokarst lake

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Thermokarst (thaw) lakes are projected to be an increasing source of atmospheric methane (CH4), a potent greenhouse gas, as climate warms and permafrost thaws. However, the magnitude of CH4 cycling, particularly the role of aerobic CH4 oxidation (methanotrophy), among thermokarst lakes, is not well constrained.
