Racoro Extended-Term Aircraft Observations of Boundary Layer Clouds [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the American Meteorological Society, 2012
Small boundary-layer clouds are ubiquitous over many parts of the globe and strongly influence the Earths radiative energy balance. However, our understanding of these clouds is insufficient to solve pressing scientific problems. For example, cloud feedback represents the largest uncertainty amongst all climate feedbacks in general circulation models ...

Biobased Bionic Spider Silk via Electrostatic Complexation for Simultaneously Harvesting Atmospheric Water and Triboelectric Energy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based bionic spider silk and spider web are first prepared using polyelectrolyte complexation technique for the simultaneous harvesting of water and triboelectric energy. The advantage of this process lies on entirely bio‐based materials, fully green water‐processable procedures, extremely high production rate (99.36%), excellent fog harvesting ...

Tailor‐Made Protective LixAlSy Layer for Lithium Anodes to Enhance the Stability of Solid‐State Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
An intentionally added, chemically formed LixAlSy coating stabilizes the lithium–electrolyte interface in solid‐state Li–S batteries. The layer suppresses side reactions, preserves smooth charge transfer, and improves ion transport from the start. This approach offers a practical route to more durable solid‐state batteries and a clearer understanding ...

Aircraft contrails : observation and prediction

open access: yes
Everyone can predict contrail lifespan with sufficient accuracy of aircraft flying overhead. Needed is only a smartphone with Internet access and two charts. If it is so easy, pilots, airlines, and air traffic control can also do it. Every pilot can request Flight Level xyz to avoid warming contrails. Time for contrail management is now.
