Aerodynamics of an airfoil with leading‐edge icing
The flow over the leading edge of an NREL S826 reference airfoil with three different icing‐inspired leading‐edge contamination geometries has been assessed experimentally. Particle image velocimetry was performed on the leading edge of the airfoil for a

Dynamic stall in clean air flow has been well studied, but its exploration in air–particle (air–raindrop or air–sand) flow is still lacking. The aerodynamic performance loss of aircraft (NACA0012) and wind turbine (S809) airfoils and their differences ...

Airfoil disperses smokestack effluents upward [PDF]
System consists of negative-lift airfoil mounted at or near top of smokestack without obstructing flow of effluents from stack. Controls adjust negative lift and drag of airfoil, for changing orientation of airfoil to maintain proper airflow over foil ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Dynamic Stall Characteristics of the Bionic Airfoil with Different Waviness Ratios
A dynamic stall will cause dramatic changes in the aerodynamic performance of the blade, resulting in a sharp increase in the blade vibration load. The bionic leading-edge airfoil with different waviness ratios, inspired by the humpback whales flipper ...

A Degradable Bioinspired Flier with Aerogel‐Based Colorimetric Sensors for Environmental Monitoring
Biodegradable fliers are developed inspired by Tipuana tipu samaras, integrating cellulose nanocrystal aerogel (CNCa) sensors loaded with natural dyes for pH and ammonia detection. The lightweight, degradable fliers mimic natural morphology and aerodynamics, offering an eco‐friendly, scalable solution for in situ environmental monitoring after passive ...

Improvement in the performance of Darrieus vertical axis wind turbine using J-type airfoil shape
This study aims to improve the performance of the vertical axis wind turbine using a J-type airfoil shape. In this study we used an optimal airfoil shape called Opt-VF that was obtained in previous research using an optimization method of the Kriging ...
