An assessment of twilight airglow inversion procedures using atmosphere explorer observations [PDF]

open access: yes
The aim of this research project was to test and truth some recently developed methods for recovering thermospheric oxygen atom densities and thermospheric temperatures from ground-based observations of the 7320 A O(+)((sup 2)D - (sup 2)P) twilight air ...

Chapman's airglow mechanism resurrected?

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1993
A reanalysis is summarized of a previously unquestioned, sole source of kinetic data, on the reaction of NaO with O‐atom. It is apparent that there are significant uncertainties in the kinetic mechanism of the experiments. Moreover, it appears plausible that these reaction rate data do not relate to NaO but rather to Na2O.
