Oxidation of AISI 304 and AISI 439 stainless steels
Materials Science & Engineering A: Structural Materials: Properties, Microstructure and Processing, 2007The oxidation behaviour of AISI 304 and AISI 439 stainless steels was studied at high temperatures, under various oxygen pressures and in the presence or not of water vapour. Thermogravimetric analyses were conducted in isothermal conditions from 850 to 950 ◦C for 50 h and microstructural and chemical analyses of the oxide films grown by oxidation were

Comparing the Formability of AISI 304 and AISI 202 Stainless Steels
Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2011The formability of AISI 202 austenitic stainless steel was compared with that of type AISI 304 stainless steel. Type 202 is a low-nickel austenitic stainless steel alloyed with manganese and nitrogen. In this study, the formability of the two grades was examined using Erichsen cupping tests and room temperature uniaxial tensile tests performed at ...

Corrosion Behaviour of Electron Beam Welded AISI 304 and AISI 4140
Advanced Materials Research, 2011In the present work hot corrosion studies were carried out on electron beam welded AISI 304 and AISI 4140 dissimilar weldment in molten salt (K2SO4-60% NaCl) environment at 800 °C for 50 cycles. The weight gain follows parabolic law in all the cases. It is observed that the scale formation was maximum on 4140 side as compared on 304 side.

AISI 304 laser prototyping by different techniques
SPIE Proceedings, 2000The laser forming process of metal sheet has been investigated and has proved to be adequate to rapid prototyping. In order to successfully apply this technique, a deep understanding of laser-material interaction is required. Since the AISI 304 stainless steel is widely used for deformation processes, the authors decided to investigate its laser ...
