Effect of Gas Pressure on Active Screen Plasma Nitriding Response [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
An austenitic stainless steel AISI 304 was active screen plasma nitrided using a 304 steel screen to investigate the effect of the gas pressure on the nitriding response. The sample was treated for 18 ks at 723 K in 25 % N2 +75 % H2. The gas pressure was

Additive Manufacturing of Hot Work Tool Steel by Laser Powder Bed Fusion Utilizing Powder Mixtures Including Grinding Chips: Assessing Chemical Homogeneity and Achievable Hardness

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 1, January 2026.
Grinding chips of high‐alloyed steel are prepared to be admixed to a starting powder mixture for laser powder bed fusion. A three‐stage preparation is performed, including washing in acetone, magnetic separation, and ball milling. The addition of 30% of grinding chips to the powder mixture allows the fabrication of dense samples.

Additive Manufacturing of Negative Thermal Expansion Metamaterials Using Steels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 1, 8 January 2026.
Architected lattices with tunable negative thermal expansion are fabricated from common steels using laser powder bed fusion metal additive manufacturing. Optimized multimaterial interfaces and geometry‐driven design produce robust, defect‐minimized structures that remain dimensionally stable up to 300 °C, enabling scalable solutions for thermal ...

Efficiency of Different Disinfectants on Bacillus cereus Sensu Stricto Biofilms on Stainless-Steel Surfaces in Contact With Milk

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
The species of the Bacillus cereus group have the ability to adhere to and form biofilms on solid surfaces, including stainless steel, a material widely used in food industries. Biofilms allow for recontamination during food processing, and the “clean-in-

Oxidation and corrosion behavior of modified-composition, low-chromium 304 stainless steel alloys [PDF]

open access: yes
The effects of substituting less strategic elements than Cr on the oxidation and corrosion resistance of AISI 304 stainless steel were investigated. Cyclic oxidation resistance was evaluated at 870 C.

Joint strength of friction stir welded AISI 304 austenitic stainless steels

open access: yesInternational Journal of Materials Research, 2013
Abstract In this study, AISI 304 (X5CrNi18-10) austenitic stainless steels were joined by means of friction stir welding. The welded joint strength of stainless steels was influenced by many factors, such as different tool rotational speeds, traverse speeds, compressive tool forces, and tool angles, etc.
