Experimental survey on the behaviour of AISI 304 steel sheets subjected to perforation [PDF]

open access: yesThin-Walled Structures, 2010
This paper presents and analyzes the behaviour of AISI 304 steel sheets subjected to perforation under a wide range of impact velocities. The relevance of this steel resides in the potential transformation of austenite into martensite during mechanical ...

Texture development during austempering process of an AISI 4130 steel

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2020
Abstract In this investigation, microstructural development and mechanical properties of an automotive grade AISI 4130 steel were explored through various heat treatment routes. In that regard, first of all the effect of austenitization temperature and time on the mechanical properties were assessed.

A study of cumulative fatigue damage in AISI 4130 steel

Journal of Materials Science, 1986
Experimental data were obtained using AISI 4130 steel under stress ratios of -1 and 0. A study of cumulative fatigue damage using Miner's and Kramer's equations for stress ratios of -1 and 0 for low-high, low-high-mixed, high-low, and high-low-mixed stress sequences has revealed that there is a close agreement between the theoretical and experimental ...

The effect of palladium on hydrogen absorption and mobility in AISI 4130 steels

Corrosion Science, 1988
Abstract The effect of palladium in solid solution on the hydrogen absorption and mobility were investigated by cathodic polarization and hydrogen permeation techniques in 1 N NaOH. Palladium additions led to a higher hydrogen permeation rate due to an increased diffusivity and a decreased hydrogen trapping effect.

Fatigue Reliability With Notch Effects for AISI 4130 and 1038 Steels

Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1975
Methodologies for developing distributional theoretical stress concentration factors, fatigue stress concentration factors, and notch sensitivity factors for circumferentially grooved, rotating AISI 4130 and AISI 1038, 3/8-in.-dia rods subjected to reversed bending are developed and the results are presented. The groove radii vary from 0.031 in.

Effect of specific microstructures on hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of a modified AISI 4130 steel

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2021
Abstract The focus of this study is to analyze hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of a modified AISI 4130 steel by means of incremental step loading tests. Three different microstructures with a hardness of 40 HRC were analyzed: martensite with large and small prior austenite grains and dual-phase (martensite/ferrite).

Hot ductility and flow stress of AISI 4130 and 52100-type steels

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2017
Abstract The present communication reports the main findings of an investigation that has been conducted in order to examine the ductility of both the AISI 4130 and 52100 steel grades, in a wide range of temperatures, spanning from room temperature up to 1250 °C, deformed in tension at strain rates of approximately 0.005 s − 1 . The ductility of the

Enhanced Hardenability and Tempering Resistance of AISI 4130 Steel by Ni Addition

Materials Performance and Characterization, 2016
Abstract The AISI 4130 steel grade is commonly used in piping systems, where optimum chemical composition and heat treatment can exhibit high yield strength, good ductility, and moderate weldability depending on composition. However, this steel grade is characterized by its low hardenability, which limits a good transformation during ...
