Plasma post oxidation of nitrocarburized AISI 4140 steel

Abstract Plasma nitrocarburizing and plasma oxidizing treatments were performed to improve the wear and corrosion resistance of AISI 4140 steel. Plasma nitrocarburizing was conducted for 3 h at 570 °C in the nitrogen, hydrogen and methane atmosphere to produce the ɛ-Fe 2–3 (N, C) phase.

Selective laser melting of AISI 4140 steel

This thesis focused on investigating the microstructure and mechanical properties of Selective Laser Melting (SLM) manufactured AISI 4140 steel under a range of in-situ heat loading conditions. In the SLM process, the process parameters determine the basic performance and microstructure of an as-built object.
