Influence of Complementary Machining on fatigue strength of AISI 4140
CIRP Annals, 2018Abstract Mechanical surface treatment is an additional process step in the process chain of part manufacturing to enhance performance but increasing production time and costs. Hence, different hybrid processes have been developed including Complementary Machining, which does not need a complex tool.

Modeling of austenite decomposition in an AISI 4140 steel
2009The final mechanical properties and also the distribution of residual stresses in a heat treated product, depend upon the various microstructural constituents. In heat treatment operations, in order to predict the final properties, it has become increasingly important to be able to predict the final microstructure distribution for a given thermal ...

Tribological Characteristics of Duplex Treated AISI 4140 Steel
2000In the present study samples of AISI 4140 steel pre-treated by plasma nitriding and coated by a hydrogen-free hard carbon film were investigated with respect to microhardness, surface roughness, residual stress, scratch adhesion and dry sliding wear resistance.

Crack Arrest Toughness of Two High Strength Steels (AISI 4140 and AISI 4340)
Metallurgical Transactions A, 1982The crack initiation toughness (K c ) and crack arrest toughness (K a ) of AISI 4140 and AISI 4340 steel were measured over a range of yield strengths from 965 to 1240 MPa, and a range of test temperatures from -53 to +74°C. Emphasis was placed onK a testing since these values are thought to represent the minimum toughness of the steel as a function of

Plasma post oxidation of nitrocarburized AISI 4140 steel
Rare Metals, 2006Abstract Plasma nitrocarburizing and plasma oxidizing treatments were performed to improve the wear and corrosion resistance of AISI 4140 steel. Plasma nitrocarburizing was conducted for 3 h at 570 °C in the nitrogen, hydrogen and methane atmosphere to produce the ɛ-Fe 2–3 (N, C) phase.
