Multiobjective Optimization of Fiber Laser Trepan Drilling for Stainless Steel Using Taguchi–Grey Relational Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The present work focuses on optimizing spatter size, taper angle, and circularity simultaneously during fiber laser trepan drilling of stainless steel thin sheet using Taguchi–grey relational analysis (GRA). The controllable process factors such as trepanning speed, average laser power, and pulse frequency with five levels are applied to conduct the ...

The Effect of Cryogenic Treatment on W360 and E38K Hot Work Tool Steels

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 95, Issue 9, September 2024.
The cryogenic treatment facilitates the transformation of retained austenite to martensite to an undetectable limit, with about 3 times higher amount of the carbide precipitation for both steel types. Both steel types exhibit almost similar impact energy values at room temperature, but E38K steel has 2 times higher energy at 350 °C.

High‐Speed Laser Surface Structuring for Thermal Spray Coating Preparation

open access: yesphysica status solidi (a), Volume 221, Issue 15, August 2024.
The article shows the possible use of fast laser structuring as a replacement for the standard process of grit blasting as substrate preparation for spray coating. For this purpose, steel surfaces are machined with continuous wave, nanosecond, and ultrashort pulse lasers and afterward coated with Stellite 6 and tungsten.
