Precision radial turning of AISI D2 steel

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2008
This paper compares finite element model (FEM) simulations with experimental and analytical findings concerning precision radial turning of AISI D2 steel. FEM machining simulation employs a Lagrangian finite element-based machining model applied to predict cutting and thrust forces, cutting temperature and plastic strain distribution.

Structure-Property Correlation of Cryotreated AISI D2 Steel

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
This study aims to reveal the underlying mechanism associated with the enhancement of wear resistance of tool steels by deep cryogenic treatment and to resolve the issue of reported varied degree of improvement in wear resistance through structure-property correlation of cryotreated vis-à-vis conventionally treated AISI D2 steel.

Investigation of boriding kinetics of AISI D2 steel

Surface Engineering, 2014
A diffusion model was suggested to analyse the growth kinetics of Fe2B layers formed on AISI D2 steel by the pack-boriding process. It was used to estimate the boron diffusion coefficients of Fe2B in the temperature range of 1123–1273 K by applying the mass balance equation at the (Fe2B/substrate) interface.

Micro-Milling of Hardened AISI D2 Tool Steel

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
The paper presents an experimental investigation into the slotting of hardened AISI D2 (~62HRC) tool steel using 0.5mm diameter coated (TiAlN) tungsten carbide (WC) end mills. SEM analysis of tool morphology and coating integrity was undertaken on all tools prior to testing.

Hard turning: AISI 4340 high strength low alloy steel and AISI D2 cold work tool steel

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2005
Abstract The aim of this paper is to evaluate the machinability of hardened steels at different levels of hardness and using a range of cutting tool materials. More specifically, the work was focused on the machinability of hardened AISI 4340 high strength low alloy steel and AISI D2 cold work tool steel.

Tribocorrosion behavior of surface-modified AISI D2 steel

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2020
Abstract Three different thermochemical coatings were obtained on the surface of an AISI D2 cold work tool steel under different process conditions through the use of boriding, titanizing, and borotitanizing (titanizing followed by boriding) treatments.

Prediction of Machining Performances in Hardened AISI D2 Steel

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2019
Abstract The current research focuses on predicting the surface roughness, the flank wear and (chip–tool) interface temperature when turning the hardened AISI D2 (55 ± 1 HRC) employing a mixed ceramic (Al2O3 + TiCN) tool in dry condition. Quadratic regression methodology has been introduced and their performances are compared on basis of mean error ...

Characterization of Metallurgical and Mechanical Properties of Thixowelded AISI D2 and AISI 304 Steels

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2020
In this study, AISI D2 tool steel was thixowelded with AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel by using a direct partial remelting technique. The joining parameters (temperature, soaking time, and contact area) have been investigated by studying their effects on the mechanical and metallurgical properties of the thixowelded joint.

Experimental Study in HSM of Hardened Steel AISI D2

Advanced Materials Research, 2009
Hardened steel is widely used for good mechanical property, but its machinability is bad comparatively. It is efficient to enhance metal removed rate when high speed milling (HSM) hardened steel, but tool wear is rapid. In this paper, high-speed milling experiments were carried out for hardened steel with TiAlN coated tools.

Microstructural Evolution of AISI D2 Tool Steel during Aging

Solid State Phenomena, 2011
The effects of low temperature isothermal treatments on a quenched AISI D2 tool steel was studied using Barkhausen Noise, X-ray diffraction, dilatometry and optical and electronic microscopy. The specimens were austenitized at 1040°C and quenched in oil.
