Cost model for end-milling of AISI D2 tool steel
2011 National Postgraduate Conference, 2011In this research paper, user-friendly and accurate mathematical model for estimating the cost of end-milling of AISI D2 tool steel using Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) cutting tool inserts is developed. Initially, the different components of machining cost were identified, followed by establishment of equations to determine their values ...

On machining of hardened AISI D2 steel with PCBN tools
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2006Abstract This paper describes an experimental investigation on machining of a difficult-to-cut material, AISI D2 steel of hardness 62 HRC with PCBN tools. It was found that the most feasible feeds and speeds fall in the ranges 0.08–0.20 mm/rev and 70–120 m/min, respectively and that most of the tested PCBN tools reached the end of life mainly due to ...

On the corrosion behavior of TiN-coated AISI D2 steel
Surface and Coatings Technology, 1999Abstract An extensive investigation on the corrosion behavior of the TiN-coated D2 tool steel was performed. It is demonstrated that the corrosion properties of the TiN-coated D2 steel are primarily determined by the synergetic effect of the packing factor and thickness associated with the coating.

Surface Integrity in Micromilling of Hardened AISI D2 Tool Steel
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015This paper presents workpiece surface integrity of micromilling hardened tool steel AISI D2. These include 3D mapping of surface texture, analysis of microstructure and microhardness variation. The results indicate no evidence of major surface damage such as microcracks, un-tempered/over-tempered martensite, phase transformations or white layer ...

Prediction of Boride Thickness on Tool Steels AISI D2 and AISI H13 Using Boriding Kinetics
Advanced Materials Research, 2014Cold and hot work tool steels AISI D2 and AISI H13, respectively, were borided using a packed boriding process. Boriding temperature range of 1123 1223 K was performed with different boriding time up to 6 hr, afterwards, near-surface properties of the borided tool steels AISI D2 and H13 were characterized.

In the current work, AISI 4140 steel was pack-boronized at 950°C for 3 h and gas-nitrided at 550°C for 72 h. All specimens used in this work were prepared from the same steel bar. A 3-µm-thick diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating (a-C:H) was deposited on the AISI D2 high-carbon, high-chromium, cold-worked tool steel by a plasma-assisted chemical vapor ...

Improvement of AISI D2 steel properties by unconventional vacuum heat treatments
Materials Science and Engineering, 1988Abstract The possibility of improving the properties of an AISI D2 steel by an unconventional vacuum heat treatment has been studied. A double quenching, the first quenching from a temperature higher than that for the second quenching, followed by normal tempering enables an excellent combination of toughness and hardness to be obtained as a ...
