Influence of varied cryotreatment on the wear behavior of AISI D2 steel

Wear, 2009
Abstract Exploration of the benefit of cryotreatment for achieving improvement in wear resistance of die/tool steel is a topic of current research interest. A series of wear tests has been carried out on AISI D2 steel samples subjected to cryotreatment at 77 K for different durations.

Surface Integrity in Hot Machining of AISI D2 Hardened Steel

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
This study presents experimental results of machined surface integrity of die material (AISI D2 hardened steel) when hot machining (induction heating) assisted end milling using coated carbide is applied. The aim of this work was to study the influence of induction heating temperature, cutting speed, and feed on the effects induced by hard milling on ...

Microstructural Evolution of AISI D2 Tool Steel during Aging

Solid State Phenomena, 2011
The effects of low temperature isothermal treatments on a quenched AISI D2 tool steel was studied using Barkhausen Noise, X-ray diffraction, dilatometry and optical and electronic microscopy. The specimens were austenitized at 1040°C and quenched in oil.

Production and characterization of boride layers on AISI D2 tool steel

Vacuum, 2010
Abstract AISI D2 is the most commonly used cold-work tool steel of its grade. It offers high hardenability, low distortion after quenching, high resistance to softening and good wear resistance. The use of appropriate hard coatings on this steel can further improve its wear resistance.

High Performance in EDM Machining of AISI D2 Hardened Steel

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
In this paper an attempt has been made to investigate the performance of an electrode made through powder metallurgy (PM) of copper tungsten during electrical discharge machining (EDM). Experimental results are presented on electrical discharge machining of AISI D2 hardened steel in kerosene with a copper tungsten (Cu35% - W65%) tool electrode made ...

Cost model for end-milling of AISI D2 tool steel

2011 National Postgraduate Conference, 2011
In this research paper, user-friendly and accurate mathematical model for estimating the cost of end-milling of AISI D2 tool steel using Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) cutting tool inserts is developed. Initially, the different components of machining cost were identified, followed by establishment of equations to determine their values ...

Surface Integrity in Micromilling of Hardened AISI D2 Tool Steel

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
This paper presents workpiece surface integrity of micromilling hardened tool steel AISI D2. These include 3D mapping of surface texture, analysis of microstructure and microhardness variation. The results indicate no evidence of major surface damage such as microcracks, un-tempered/over-tempered martensite, phase transformations or white layer ...

Prediction of Boride Thickness on Tool Steels AISI D2 and AISI H13 Using Boriding Kinetics

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
Cold and hot work tool steels AISI D2 and AISI H13, respectively, were borided using a packed boriding process. Boriding temperature range of 1123 1223 K was performed with different boriding time up to 6 hr, afterwards, near-surface properties of the borided tool steels AISI D2 and H13 were characterized.
