Performance characteristics of hardened AISI D2 steel turning: A review

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2020
Abstract Hard turning is the process of machining hardened steels that have above 45HRC. In metal-manufacturing, hard turning potentially substitutes the grinding process as it possesses lots of benefits like higher metal volume removal rate, less costly, easy to handle, flexible tooling and exhibiting closer surface quality to grinding finish.

Electrochemical boriding and characterization of AISI D2 tool steel

Thin Solid Films, 2011
Abstract D2 is an air-hardening tool steel and due to its high chromium content provides very good protection against wear and oxidation, especially at elevated temperatures. Boriding of D2 steel can further enhance its surface mechanical and tribological properties.

Experimental Study in HSM of Hardened Steel AISI D2

Advanced Materials Research, 2009
Hardened steel is widely used for good mechanical property, but its machinability is bad comparatively. It is efficient to enhance metal removed rate when high speed milling (HSM) hardened steel, but tool wear is rapid. In this paper, high-speed milling experiments were carried out for hardened steel with TiAlN coated tools.

Micro-Milling of Hardened AISI D2 Tool Steel

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
The paper presents an experimental investigation into the slotting of hardened AISI D2 (~62HRC) tool steel using 0.5mm diameter coated (TiAlN) tungsten carbide (WC) end mills. SEM analysis of tool morphology and coating integrity was undertaken on all tools prior to testing.

Tribocorrosion behavior of surface-modified AISI D2 steel

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2020
Abstract Three different thermochemical coatings were obtained on the surface of an AISI D2 cold work tool steel under different process conditions through the use of boriding, titanizing, and borotitanizing (titanizing followed by boriding) treatments.

Response Surface Analysis of EDMED Surfaces of AISI D2 Steel

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
In this study, the effects of the machining parameters in electrical-discharge machining (EDM) on the machining characteristics of AISI D2 steel using copper electrodes were investigated. The response functions considered material removal rate (MRR) and Surface Roughness (Ra),while machining variables are pulse current, pulse on time, pause time and ...

Corrosion Behavior of TiN Coated AISI D2 Steel

2015
In this study, the corrosion behaviors of nitride and titanium nitride (TiN) layers deposited on AISI D2 steel samples are reported. Steel was at first nitrided in a nitrogen and ammonia atmosphere at 575 °C for 8 h and then titanium nitride coating treatment was performed in the powder mixture consisting of ferro-titanium, ammonium chloride and ...

The characteristics of cutting forces in the micro-milling of AISI D2 steel

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2009
The interaction effect of parameters to surface topography and cutting forces is investigated, and the magnitudes of these parameters are determined in the micro-milling of AISI D2 steel. The results show that the feed per tooth has a prominent impact on the surface topography.
