Investigation of boriding kinetics of AISI D2 steel
Surface Engineering, 2014A diffusion model was suggested to analyse the growth kinetics of Fe2B layers formed on AISI D2 steel by the pack-boriding process. It was used to estimate the boron diffusion coefficients of Fe2B in the temperature range of 1123–1273 K by applying the mass balance equation at the (Fe2B/substrate) interface.

Precision radial turning of AISI D2 steel
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2008This paper compares finite element model (FEM) simulations with experimental and analytical findings concerning precision radial turning of AISI D2 steel. FEM machining simulation employs a Lagrangian finite element-based machining model applied to predict cutting and thrust forces, cutting temperature and plastic strain distribution.

Prediction of Machining Performances in Hardened AISI D2 Steel
Materials Today: Proceedings, 2019Abstract The current research focuses on predicting the surface roughness, the flank wear and (chip–tool) interface temperature when turning the hardened AISI D2 (55 ± 1 HRC) employing a mixed ceramic (Al2O3 + TiCN) tool in dry condition. Quadratic regression methodology has been introduced and their performances are compared on basis of mean error ...

Surface Topography in Machining of AISI D2 Hardened Steel
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013Surface topography plays an important part in understanding the nature of machined surfaces. This study is focused on surface topography of AISI D2 hardened steel (58-62 HRC) under dry milling process. Roughness, surface morphology and defects analysis were investigated.

In this study, AISI D2 tool steel was thixowelded with AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel by using a direct partial remelting technique. The joining parameters (temperature, soaking time, and contact area) have been investigated by studying their effects on the mechanical and metallurgical properties of the thixowelded joint.

On the refinement of carbide precipitates by cryotreatment in AISI D2 steel
Philosophical Magazine, 2009Refinement of carbide particles by cryotreatment is often proposed as a major factor for the improvement of wear resistance in tool steels. However, this proposition is not substantiated by experimental evidence. This has been examined in this report by (i) detailed micro-structural analyses of the nature, volume fraction, size, population density and ...

Structure-Property Correlation of Cryotreated AISI D2 Steel
Advanced Materials Research, 2010This study aims to reveal the underlying mechanism associated with the enhancement of wear resistance of tool steels by deep cryogenic treatment and to resolve the issue of reported varied degree of improvement in wear resistance through structure-property correlation of cryotreated vis-à-vis conventionally treated AISI D2 steel.

On the corrosion behavior of TiN-coated AISI D2 steel
Surface and Coatings Technology, 1999Abstract An extensive investigation on the corrosion behavior of the TiN-coated D2 tool steel was performed. It is demonstrated that the corrosion properties of the TiN-coated D2 steel are primarily determined by the synergetic effect of the packing factor and thickness associated with the coating.

Characterization of Niobium Carbonitride Coating on AISI D2 Steel
Materials Science Forum, 2007Thermo-diffusion coatings containing Nitrogen, Carbon and Niobium (N+C+Nb) on AISI D2 steel have been carried out by an initial tufftriding process followed by saturation with Niobium. The properties of the diffusion layer, namely microstructure, phase composition and micro-hardness of the Niobium carbonitride layer, have been studied. The influence of

On machining of hardened AISI D2 steel with PCBN tools
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2006Abstract This paper describes an experimental investigation on machining of a difficult-to-cut material, AISI D2 steel of hardness 62 HRC with PCBN tools. It was found that the most feasible feeds and speeds fall in the ranges 0.08–0.20 mm/rev and 70–120 m/min, respectively and that most of the tested PCBN tools reached the end of life mainly due to ...
