The adipokinetic hormones (AKHs) from the corpora cardiaca (CC) of representative species from all three subfamilies of the Sphingidae (hawkmoths) were investigated using matrix-assisted laser desorption-ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) and liquid chromatography electrospray ion trap mass spectrometry (LC-ESI MS), including a re-examination of the

Antisera against AKHs and AKH precursors for experimental studies of an insect neurosecretory system
Insect Biochemistry, 1989Abstract Three different oligopeptides based on the amino acid sequence of Schistocerca gregaria AKH I and AKH II were designed and synthesized. They were used to raise rabbit antisera capable of differentiating between AKH I and II and of recognizing the identified precursors of the AKHs (P1 and P2).

Inactivation of neuropeptide hormones (AKH I and AKH II) studied in vivo and in vitro
Insect Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1992Abstract Timely and effective inactivation of neurohormones is necessary to ensure appropriate biological responses. We have studied the means by which the actions of insect adipokinetic hormones (AKH I: pGlu-Leu-Asn-Phe-Thr-Pro-Asn-Trp-Gly-Thr-NH 2 ) and AKH II (pGlu-Leu-Asn-Phe-Ser-Thr-Gly-Trp-NH 2 ) are terminated in the circulatory system of the ...

Structures in the AKH Family of Neuropeptides
Insect Biochemistry, 1990In locusts, adipokinetic hormones have well defined actions: they mobilise diacylglycerols from the fat body and stimulate oxidation of lipids by the flight muscles (Goldsworthy and Wheeler, 1989). Their actions presumably depend on interactions with specific receptors in the tissues, but there have been no direct studies of AKH receptors.
