Isolation of two AKH‐related peptides from cicadas

Archives of Insect Biochemistry and Physiology, 1995
AbstractTwo peptides related to locust adipokinetic hormone and crustacean red pigment concentrating hormone were isolated by high performance liquid chromatography from the cicadas Cacama valavata and Diceroprocta semicincta. Both species have the same peptides.

The adipokinetic hormone (AKH) of one of the most basal orders of Pterygota: Structure and function of Ephemeroptera AKH

Journal of Insect Physiology, 2012
This is the first reported primary sequence of a bioactive peptide isolated from three Ephemeroptera families. Peptides of the adipokinetic hormone (AKH) family from the corpora cardiaca of nymphs of Afronurus spp. (Family: Heptageniidae), Siphlonurus lacustris (Family: Siphlonuridae) and Ephemera danica (Family: Ephemeridae) were investigated ...

Akh-en-Aton and Nefert-iti

Journal of Near Eastern Studies, 1973
KEITH Seele had a special interest in the Amarna period. He devoted much attention to chapters 14 and 15 in the second edition of G. Steindorff and Keith C. Seele, When Egypt Ruled the East, which he revised in 1957, and he threaded a careful path in the article, "King Ay and the Close of the Amarna Age," in JNES 14 (1955): 168-80.

Beetles’ choice—proline for energy output: control by AKHs

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2002
Many beetle species use proline and carbohydrates in a varying ratio to power flight. The degree of contribution of either fuel varies widely between species. In contrast, dung beetle species investigated, thus far, do not have any carbohydrate reserves and rely completely on proline to power energy-costly activities such as flight and, probably ...

Biological effects of synthetic AKH in Manduca sexta and estimates of the amount of AKH in corpora cardiaca

Archives of Insect Biochemistry and Physiology, 1990
AbstractDose‐response curves were measured with synthetic Manduca adipokinetic hormone (AKH) for glycogen phosphorylase activation in larvae and for lipid mobilization in adults. Both responses are known hormonal functions in Manduca sexta. In ligated larvae, full activation of glycogen phosphorylase was achieved with 0.1 pmol and half‐maximal ...

Akh

2013
The notion of akh, often translated as (effective) spirit, pointed toward many different meanings, such as the identity of the transfigured dead as well as that of living persons who acted efficaciously for (or on behalf of) their masters. The akh belonged to cardinal terms of ancient Egyptian religion and hence is often found in Egyptian religious ...
