A rank inequality for the annular Khovanov homology of 2-periodic links

open access: yes, 2017
For a 2-periodic link $\tilde L$ in the thickened annulus and its quotient link $L$, we exhibit a spectral sequence with $E^1 \cong AKh(\tilde L) \otimes_{\mathbb{F}_2} \mathbb{F}_2[\theta, \theta^{-1}] \rightrightarrows E^\infty \cong AKh(L) \otimes_ ...

Simple PTAS's for families of graphs excluding a minor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We show that very simple algorithms based on local search are polynomial-time approximation schemes for Maximum Independent Set, Minimum Vertex Cover and Minimum Dominating Set, when the input graphs have a fixed forbidden minor.Comment: To appear in ...

Sulfakinin Signaling Sense Circulating Fructose and Suppresses Food Consumption via Insulin‐Like Peptide in Bactrocera Dorsalis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study discovered a new pathway that tells fruit flies when to stop eating. It found that rising blood sugar (fructose) is detected by a sensor called GR43a. This triggers a chain reaction involving the satiety signal sulfakinin and its receptor, ultimately activating a final satiety signal, ILP5.

Effect of adipokinetic hormone on the structure and properties of lipophorin in locusts.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1986
The reversible association of a low molecular weight hemolymph protein (mol wt 20,000 estimated by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis) with lipophorin, following treatment with adipokinetic hormone (AKH), was demonstrated by density gradient ...

Changes in lipophorins are related to the activation of phenoloxidase in the haemolymph of Locusta migratoria in response to injection of immunogens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In Locusta migratoria, activation of phenoloxidase in the haemolymph in response to injection of laminarin is age-dependent: being absent in fifth instar nymphs and newly emerged adults, and only becoming evident four days after the final moult.

Malposition of a Port Catheter in the Azygos Vein: Endovascular Repositioning Using a Long Loop Snare Technique

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Port catheters provide a reliable, long‐term venous access option in children for repeated administration of medications or parenteral nutrition. A cardiac catheterization procedure was performed in a 7‐year‐old girl in whom lateral chest radiography revealed posterior deviation suggestive of azygos vein malposition.

A role of corazonin receptor in larval-pupal transition and pupariation in the oriental fruit fly Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Corazonin (Crz) is a neuropeptide hormone, but also a neuropeptide modulator that is internally released within the CNS, and it has a widespread distribution in insects with diverse physiological functions.

The One‐Step Synthesis of Biologically Active Isochromans from Lignin‐Derived Aromatic Monomers in Tunable Deep Eutectic Solvents

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
A straightforward one‐step protocol enables the synthesis of bio‐based and biologically active isochromans through the Oxa‐Pictet cyclization involving diverse aldehydes, including vanillin in combination with lignin‐derivable homovanillyl alcohol, a prominent aromatic platform chemical obtainable via diol‐assisted fractionation of lignocellulose ...

Isolation, Characterization, and Application of a Bacteriophage Infecting the Fish Pathogen Aeromonas hydrophila

open access: yesPathogens, 2020
Bacteriophages are increasingly being used as biological control agents against pathogenic bacteria. In the present study, we isolate and characterize bacteriophage Akh-2 from Geoje Island, South Korea, to evaluate its utility in controlling motile ...
