Emergence and Spread of Piscine orthoreovirus Genotype 3 [PDF]

open access: yesPathogens, 2020
Piscine orthoreovirus (PRV) is a relevant pathogen for salmonid aquaculture worldwide. In 2015, a new genotype of PRV (genotype 3, PRV-3) was discovered in Norway, and in 2017 PRV-3 was detected for first time in Denmark in association with complex ...

Dyrevelferd i akvakultur

open access: yesKritisk Juss
Dødelighetstallene hos oppdrettsfisk er betydelig høyere enn i annen husdyrproduksjon. På tross av dette har vi kun funnet én straffesak fra den tidligere lov om dyrevern av 20. desember 1974 nr.

Increased dietary protein‐to‐lipid ratio improves survival during naturally occurring pancreas disease in Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 42, Issue 1, Page 21-34, January 2019., 2019
Abstract This study demonstrated that increased dietary protein‐to‐lipid ratio (P/L‐ratio) improved survival of farmed Atlantic salmon naturally affected by pancreas disease (PD). In addition to diet, body weight (BW) and delousing mortality prior to the PD outbreak also contributed significantly (p < 0.05) to explain the observed variation in PD ...

Evaluation of Morphological and Quality Parameters in Adult Male Red King Crabs (Paralithodes camtschaticus) Raised to Commercial Weight from Juveniles

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Red king crab (RKC) has become a valuable resource, and most of this fishery operates in a quota‐regulated area (QRA) east of 26°E. West of the QRA, a free fishery area (FFA) is established to limit further migration. Today, juvenile RKCs from the FFA are not utilized.

Development of cod farming in Norway: Past and current biological and market status and future prospects and directions

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 14, Issue 1, Page 308-342, January 2022., 2022
Abstract Atlantic cod is a historically abundant species in the North Atlantic region and has contributed to the prosperity of many nations. But a decline in stocks in the last century has prompted to initiate commercial farming of cod in captive conditions. Several approaches have been employed ranging from stock enhancement, capture‐based aquaculture

Wild Atlantic salmon enter aquaculture sea‐cages: A case study

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 3, Issue 5, May 2021., 2021
While the general notion is that aquaculture‐escaped Atlantic salmon can migrate into rivers and interbreed with wild Atlantic salmon, the current study documents the opposite phenomena where newly seawater migrated wild Atlantic salmon, sea trout, and salmon/trout hybrid postsmolts enter sea‐cages stocked with farmed Atlantic salmon.

The future looks like the past: Introgression of domesticated Atlantic salmon escapees in a risk assessment framework

open access: yesFish and Fisheries, Volume 21, Issue 6, Page 1077-1091, October 2020., 2020
Abstract Escapes of domesticated fish from aquaculture, followed by interbreeding with wild conspecifics, represent a threat to the genetic integrity and evolutionary trajectory of natural populations. Approximately fifty years of Atlantic salmon production has left an unprecedented legacy of widespread introgression of domesticated escapees in wild ...
