β-Alanine Supplementation

Current Sports Medicine Reports, 2012
β-Alanine is rapidly developing as one of the most popular sport supplements used by strength/power athletes worldwide. The popularity of β-alanine stems from its unique ability to enhance intramuscular buffering capacity and thereby attenuating fatigue.

Combinatorial alanine-scanning

Current Opinion in Chemical Biology, 2001
Combinatorial libraries of alanine-substituted proteins can be used to rapidly identify residues important for protein function, stability and shape. Each alanine substitution examines the contribution of an individual amino acid sidechain to the functionality of the protein.

Amperometric Alanine Electrode

Analytical Letters, 1993
Abstract An amperometric enzyme electrode for L-Alanine determination was developed. The probe is based on a platinum electrode which senses the hydrogen peroxide produced by the enzymatic reactions catalyzed by two enzymes: alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and glutamate oxidase.

Alanine Water Complexes

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2014
Two complexes of alanine with water, alanine-(H2O)n (n = 1,2), have been generated by laser ablation of the amino acid in a supersonic jet containing water vapor and characterized using Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. In the observed complexes, water molecules bind to the carboxylic group of alanine acting as both proton donors and acceptors.

DL-Alanine

Acta Crystallographica Section C Crystal Structure Communications, 2001
A determination of the structure of the title compound, C3H7NO2, leads to an accurate description of its molecular dimensions and crystal packing. As in the structure of the L-isomer, the molecules aggregate into alternating layers, each consisting of only one type of isomer. The molecules in each layer are interconnected through head-to-tail sequences

Cerebral Alanine Transport and Alanine Aminotransferase Reaction: Alanine as a Source of Neuronal Glutamate

Journal of Neurochemistry, 1994
Abstract: Alanine transport and the role of alanine amino‐transferase in the synthesis and consumption of glutamate were investigated in the preparation of rat brain synaptosomes. Alanine was accumulated rapidly via both the high‐and low‐affinity uptake systems.
