Abstract The reactions of alkali hexanitrocobaltates(III) with DL-alanine, D-alanine, L-alanine, and β-alanine have been investigated. Thereby new classes of alkali dinitro-bis (aminoacido)cobaltates(III), M[CoAm 2 (NO 2 ) 2 ] were obtained. It was established that the products obtained contain two nitro groups in the cis position.

d-Alanine metabolism is essential for growth and biofilm formation of Streptococcus mutans.
Molecular Oral Microbiology, 2016Part of the d-alanine (d-Ala) metabolic pathway in bacteria involves the conversion of l-alanine to d-Ala by alanine racemase and the formation of d-alanyl-d-alanine by d-alanine-d-alanine ligase, the product of which is involved in cell wall ...

High-resolution epitope mapping of hGH-receptor interactions by alanine-scanning mutagenesis.
Science, 1989A strategy, called alanine-scanning mutagenesis, was used to identify specific side chains in human growth hormone (hGH) that strongly modulate binding to the hGH receptor cloned from human liver. Single alanine mutations (62 in total) were introduced at

Inactivation of alanine aminotransferase by the neurotoxin β-cyano-L-alanine
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1980Abstract β-Cyano-L-alanine inactivates pig heart alanine aminotransferase. The nitrile and enzyme form a freely dissociable Michaelis complex which rearranges to a form of inactive enzyme. The inactivated enzyme slowly recovers activity at 25° in 100 mM phosphate buffer, pH 7.4. The observations are consistent with a mechanism of inactivation similar

Publisher Summary This chapter describes the structural chemistry and the biological aspects of alanine carboxypeptidase. The chapter discusses that characterization of enzymes hydrolyzing folate analogs led Levy & Goldman (1969) to synthesize other such compounds for screening soil cultures.

Serum alanine assay with an enzymic micromethod (L-alanine dehydrogenase)
Clinica Chimica Acta, 1978L-Alanine was measured by an enzymic micromethod in serum after treatment with perchloric acid, as well as after ultrafiltration through collodium membrane filters. Serum L-alanine was also determined by an automated column chromatographic technique. Using the enzymic method, spuriously increased L-alanine levels could be obtained due to the absorbent ...

Abstract The following halogenides of β-alanine: β-Ala·HF (I), β-Ala·HCl (II), β-Ala·HBr (III), β-Ala·HI (IV), 2β-Ala·HBr (V) and 2β-Ala·HI (VI) have been synthesized and characterized structurally and by vibrational spectroscopy. The salts (I–III) are simple salts A+X− but are not isostructural.

The relation of d-alanine and alanine racemase activity in molluscs
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1992Abstract 1. 1. Eighteen molluscan species were examined for the presence of d -alanine and alanine racemase activity to probe the probable relation between them. 2. 2. Two bivalve species had high concentration of d -alanine and l -alanine (1:1) and showed high activities of alanine racemase. In these species, the occurrence of d -alanine

Adsorption and discrimination of alanine and alanyl-alanine enantiomers by allophane
Clay Minerals, 2002AbstractWe have investigated the adsorption of D- and L-alanine, and their respective dimers, by three allophanes with different Al/Si ratios. The Kanuma (Al/Si = 1.2) and Kitakami (Al/ Si = 1.5) allophanes were from Japan whereas the Te Kuiti (Al/Si = 1.6) sample came from New Zealand.
