1. Phenelzine (PLZ) is an antidepressant with anxiolytic properties. Acute and chronic PLZ administration increase brain GABA levels, an effect due, at least in part, to an inhibition of the activity of the GABA metabolizing enzyme, GABA transaminase (GABA-T). 2.

[94c] β-Alanine-α-alanine transaminase (Pseudomonas)
1962Publisher Summary This chapter describes the assay method, isotopic method, purification procedure, and properties of β -Alanine- α - alanine transaminase of Pseudomonas . Enzymatic activity is best determined colorimetrically by testing for malonic semialdehyde.

Comparative properties of glutamic-alanine transaminase from several sources
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1964Abstract Rat liver mitochondrial glutamic-alanine transaminase can be distinguished from the supernatant enzyme on the basis of its markedly greater lability and its nonresponsiveness to glucocorticoid administration. The activity of this enzyme in rat skeletal muscle, heart, and kidney are considerably less than that in liver and are also ...

Induction of alanine transaminase by adrenal steroids in cultured hepatoma cells
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1970Abstract The capacity of adrenal steroid hormones to accelerate synthesis of alanine transaminase ( L -alanine-2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase, E. C. 2.6. 1.2) in cultured cells of the H-35 hepatoma was investigated. The transaminase of these cells was immunologically identical to the rat liver enzyme. By use of an isotopic- immunochemical method,

[12] Glutamate-alanine transaminase
1985Publisher Summary Glutamate–alanine transaminase is widely distributed. However, its activity in mammalian tissues is somewhat lower than that of glutamic–oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT). In the rat, highest activity is found in the liver with small amounts in skeletal muscle, heart, brain, and very little activity in kidney. The reaction catalyzed by

Vigabatrin Causes Profound Reduction in Serum Alanine Transaminase Activity
Annals of Clinical Biochemistry: International Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 1996Three patients receiving vigabatrin were identified from the paediatric neurology clinic and Vigabatrin (SABRIL, Marion Merrell Dow Ltd, Uxbridge, UK) is an anticonvulsant drug available for use in epilepsy not controlled adequately by other agents. Vigabatrin (4amino-hex-5-enoic acid) has a unique mechanism of action resulting in an increase in 'l ...

To Determine Alanine and Aspartate Transaminase Activity in Serum
2018Transaminases are tissue-specific intracellular enzymes, which catalyze reversible transfer of α-amino group from amino acid to α-keto acid. They are present in almost all cells, but higher amounts occur mainly in the liver, brain, heart, and kidney.

Changes in alanine transaminase activity in the liver of riboflavin-deficient rats

Glutamic acid-alanine transaminase in tobacco leaves infected with TMV

Increased alanine transaminase activity associated with tetracycline administration in a cat
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1993Administration of tetracycline was believed to be associated with an adverse drug reaction in a cat. Clinical signs consisted of anorexia, ptyalism, and signs of depression. The most noticeable biochemical abnormality was a markedly high serum alanine transaminase activity.
