Synthesis, Biological Activity, and Molecular Dynamics Simulations of LNA‐Charge Neutral Linkages for Enhanced Splice‐Switching Antisense Oligonucleotides

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Splice‐switching oligonucleotides are used to treat severe genetic conditions including Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, but new chemistries are urgently required to improve their efficacy. In this work locked nucleic acid (LNA) is coupled to different charge neutral DNA backbones which are studied by structural, thermodynamic, and biological methods.

Volumetric MRI Comparing Longitudinal Change in MOGAD to NMOSD, MS and Healthy Controls, and Disability Associations

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objectives To examine volumetric magnetic resonance imaging (vMRI) in myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody‐associated disease (MOGAD), compared to multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), and healthy controls (HC). Methods Standardized vMRI in MOGAD were compared to age, sex, and disease duration matched MS (5:1),

De Novo Design of High‐Affinity Miniprotein Binders Targeting Francisella Tularensis Virulence Factor

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Hybrid physics and deep‐learning enabled design methods identified miniprotein binders to Flpp3 (Francisella‐like lipoprotein), a key virulence factor from Francisella tularensis. Multiple candidates with nanomolar to picomolar binding affinities were obtained using yeast surface display screening and further experimental optimization.

Targeted Proteomics upon Treatment with Tofersen Identifies Novel Response Markers for Superoxide Dismutase 1‐Linked Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Tofersen is the first effective and approved therapy for superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1)‐associated amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS [SOD1‐ALS]). Following treatment with tofersen, neurofilament levels in patients' cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum seem to respond earlier than clinical parameters.

Organocatalyzed Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (O‐ATRP) Using a Super‐Reducing Photoredox Catalyst

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A super‐reducing organic photocatalyst expands the scope of O‐ATRP to challenging initiators and monomers. The system enables controlled polymerizations with air tolerance, temporal regulation, and grafting‐from strategies, highlighting the transformative potential of super‐reducing PCs in reversible‐deactivation radical polymerization.

Dispersion of First Sound in a Weakly Interacting Ultracold Fermi Liquid

open access: yesAnnalen der Physik, EarlyView.
The weak‐interaction, low‐temperature region of the phase diagram of a Fermi gas the so‐called Fermi liquid regime, which has been somewhat overlooked in ultracold gases‐is investigated. Precise and measurable predictions are presented for the viscosity and dispersion of first sound to leading order in the scattering length.
