Early liver transplantation for severe alcoholic hepatitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose of reviewAlcohol-related liver disease is now the most common indication for liver transplant in the United States. Acute alcoholic hepatitis represents a subpopulation with short-term mortality approaching 70% in severe cases - these patients ...

c‐Rel–dependent Chk2 signaling regulates the DNA damage response limiting hepatocarcinogenesis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
In response to genotoxic injury, c‐Rel upregulates ATM‐Chk2‐p53 pathway DNA damage proteins to limiting hepatocarcinogenesis. Abstract Background and Aims Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer‐related death. The NF‐κB transcription factor family subunit c‐Rel is typically protumorigenic; however, it has recently been reported as a

Gut-microbiota prompt activation of natural killer cell on alcoholic liver disease

open access: yesGut Microbes, 2023
The liver is rich in innate immune cells, such as natural killer (NK) cells, natural killer T cells, and Kupffer cells associated with the gut microbiome. These immune cells are dysfunctional owing to alcohol consumption.

Letter to the Editor: Glucocorticosteroids for alcoholic for alcoholic hepatitis

open access: yes, 2020
Our Cochrane systematic review on glucocorticosteroids versus placebo or no intervention for people with alcoholic hepatitis found no evidence of a difference on clinically important outcomes at either of the three timepoints of follow-up.(4) Our review (

Genomics and metabonomics in severe alcoholic hepatitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Severe alcoholic hepatitis is a florid presentation of alcohol-related liver disease and is associated with very high short-term mortality, in excess of 20% within 28 days.

TRMT6‐Mediated m1A Modification of CDK9 mRNA Is a Dual‐Pronged Pathogenic Driver for HBV‐Related Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TRMT6‐mediated m1A modification in CDK9 mRNA enhances its mRNA stability and translation efficiency, thereby increasing the protein levels of CDK9. Upregulated CDK9 promotes the progression of HCC by elevating the levels of oncogenic factors including p‐STAT3, MCL1, and BCL‐2. On the other hand, CDK9 phosphorylates TARDBP at Ser254 to activate HBV core

CD11b+CD43hiLy6Clo splenocyte‐derived macrophages exacerbate liver fibrosis via spleen–liver axis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
A population of splenic monocytes migrate into the liver and shift to macrophages, which account for the exacerbation of liver fibrosis. Abstract Background and Aims Monocyte‐derived macrophages (MoMFs), a dominant population of hepatic macrophages under inflammation, play a crucial role in liver fibrosis progression.

The SGOT/SGPT ratio in alcoholic liver disease.

open access: yesActa Médica Portuguesa, 1981
The SGOT/SGPT ratio has been estimated in 207 patients with alcoholic liver disease and in 3 control groups (43 viral hepatitis, 30 non-alcoholic chronic liver disease and 42 obstructive jaundice).

Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Emergence of highly profibrotic and proinflammatory Lrat+Fbln2+ HSC subpopulation in alcoholic hepatitis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Lrat+ quiescent hepatic stellate cells (qHSC) give rise to Lrat+Fbln2+ activated HSC (aHSC) in alcohol‐associated hepatitis and this subpopulation is highly profibrotic, inflammatory, and immunoregulatory based on their single cell transcriptomic profile. Abstract Background and Aims Relative roles of HSCs and portal fibroblasts in alcoholic hepatitis (
