Liver Transplantation For Alcoholic Liver Disease – Time for a Paradigm Shift?

open access: yes, 2014
Liver transplantation for alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is controversially discussed. Although overall survival after liver transplantation is similar to other indications, long-term survival is significantly reduced in patients with recurrence of ...

Expression of resistin in the liver of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

open access: yes, 2017
Adipokines are cytokines that presumably connect the pathologies of metabolic syndrome. One of the adipokines is resistin, the role of which in insulin resistance, obesity, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) needs to be determined.

Additive Manufacturing of Patient‐Specific Intracranial Aneurysm Cell Culture Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Patient‐specific intracranial aneurysm models were fabricated using chocolate moulding, 3D printed water‐soluble cores, and direct resin 3D printing. Moulding PDMS around sacrificial cores made of chocolate or 3D printed water‐soluble resin yielded accurate, expandable, and endothelializable models that outperformed resin‐based approaches.

Increased liver stiffness in alcoholic liver disease: differentiating fibrosis from steatohepatitis

open access: yes, 2010
To test if inflammation also interferes with liver stiffness (LS) assessment in alcoholic liver disease (ALD) and to provide a clinical algorithm for reliable fibrosis assessment in ALD by FibroScan (FS)

Alcohol Dependence and Alcoholic Liver Disease

open access: yes, 2015
Alcohol dependence is a disabling condition that has a high prevalence, but in Europe only a small fraction of the people diagnosed with alcohol abuse and dependence are treated, representing the widest treatment gap, as compared with other mental ...

Dual‐Functional Ingestible Passive Capsules for High‐Throughput Intestinal Sampling with Sealed Containment and Targeted Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
To address challenges in high‐throughput intestinal sampling with sealed containment and target drug delivery, we developed a dual‐functional ingestible passive capsule with a dual‐triggered control system based on pH‐response and mechanical actuation.

A non-invasive prediction model for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis in paediatric patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

open access: yes, 2014
Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease encompasses a spectrum of diseases that range from simple steatosis to the aggressive form of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis is currently diagnosed through liver biopsy.
