A model of ethanol self‐administration in head‐fixed mice

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
Advances in neuroscience allow unparalleled access to the brain through multiphoton microscopy, high‐density electrodes, and widefield imaging; however, these techniques often require head fixation. Here, we show head‐fixed mice learn to self‐administer alcohol, extinguish lever‐press responding, and reinstate alcohol seeking to both alcohol and an ...

Validation of blood phosphatidylethanol as an alcohol consumption biomarker in patients with alcohol use disorder and liver disease at a liver transplant center

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) outperformed traditional markers and accurately detected abstinence and heavy drinking in liver disease and AUD populations. Stepwise cutoffs were identified for drinking stratification, while hematocrit correction altered PEth levels but had minimal impact on detection thresholds.

Theory of mind deficits in Korsakoff's syndrome and alcohol use disorder: Similar deficits but different underlying cognitive processes

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
The aim of this study was to explore Theory of Mind (ToM) in Korsakoff's syndrome (KS) compared with severe alcohol use disorder (sAUD). We used a cognitive ToM test that reduces the cognitive load and global cognitive screening, working memory, and executive tests.
