Phospholipase D in Phytophthora infestans and Its Role in Zoospore Encystment

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2002
We show that differentiation of zoospores of the late blight pathogen Phytophthora infestans into cysts, a process called encystment, was triggered by both phosphatidic acid (PA) and the G-protein activator mastoparan. Mastoparan induced the accumulation

Reductive Transformation of O-, N-, S-Containing Aromatic Compounds under Hydrogen Transfer Conditions: Effect of the Process on the Ni-Based Catalyst

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
The influence of the reaction medium on the surface structure and properties of a Ni-based catalyst used for the reductive transformations of O-, N-, and S-containing aromatic substrates under hydrogen transfer conditions has been studied.

Morphology–acidity synergy in ZSM-5 for selective para-xylene synthesis via CO2/H2-mediated toluene methylation

open access: yesJournal of CO2 Utilization
CO2/H2-mediated toluene methylation over metal oxide–zeolite bifunctional catalyst offers a sustainable route for para-xylene (PX) synthesis, yet how zeolite morphology and acidity synergistically govern this coupled process remains unclear.

Palladium-Catalyzed Allylation/Benzylation of H-Phosphinate Esters with Alcohols

open access: yesMolecules, 2016
The Pd-catalyzed direct alkylation of H-phosphinic acids and hypophosphorous acid with allylic/benzylic alcohols has been described previously. Here, the extension of this methodology to H-phosphinate esters is presented. The new reaction appears general,

Infection Control Practices for Vascular Access Management in Hemodialysis: Results From a Nationwide Survey of Japanese National University Hospitals

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Bloodstream infections due to repeated vascular access (VA) puncture and circuit connections remain major concerns in hemodialysis. Therefore, we examined current practices for glove, disinfectant, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use according to VA type in national university hospitals in Japan.

Modifying monolayer behaviour by incorporating subphase additives and improving Langmuir–Blodgett thin film deposition on optical fibres [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Experiments showing the possibility of modifying the behaviour of calix[4]resorcinarene monolayers at the air–water interface and optimising the deposition of multilayer coatings onto optical fibres are presented.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Chemical and Nutritional Characterization of Seed Oil from Cucurbita maxima L. (var. Berrettina) Pumpkin

open access: yesFoods, 2018
Pumpkin (Cucurbita spp.) has received considerable attention in recent years because of the nutritional and health-protective value of seed oil. The nutritional composition of pumpkin native to central Italy, locally known as “Berrettina” (Cucurbita ...

Structural Effects of Small Molecules on Phospholipid Bilayers Investigated by Molecular Simulations

open access: yes, 2004
We summarize and compare recent Molecular Dynamics simulations on the interactions of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) bilayers in the liquid crystalline phase with a number of small molecules including trehalose, a disaccharide of glucose, alcohols,

Integrative genomic mining for enzyme function to enable engineering of a non-natural biosynthetic pathway. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The ability to biosynthetically produce chemicals beyond what is commonly found in Nature requires the discovery of novel enzyme function. Here we utilize two approaches to discover enzymes that enable specific production of longer-chain (C5-C8) alcohols
