Glycolytic reprograming in Salmonella counters NOX2-mediated dissipation of ΔpH. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The microbial adaptations to the respiratory burst remain poorly understood, and establishing how the NADPH oxidase (NOX2) kills microbes has proven elusive. Here we demonstrate that NOX2 collapses the ΔpH of intracellular Salmonella Typhimurium.

Purification and characterization of a benzylviologen-linked, tungsten-containing aldehyde oxidoreductase from Desulfovibrio gigas

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1995
Desulfovibrio gigas NCIMB 9332 cells grown in ethanol-containing medium with 0.1 microM tungstate contained a benzylviologen-linked aldehyde oxidoreductase. The enzyme was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity and found to be a homodimer with a subunit M(r) of 62,000. It contained 0.68 +/- 0.08 W, 4.8 Fe, and 3.2 +/- 0.2 labile S per subunit.

20beta-Hydroxysteroid oxidoreductase. Kinetics and binding of corticosteroids and corticosteroid-21-aldehydes.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1977
Corticosteroid-21-aldehydes were reduced only at C-20 by 20 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.53) of Streptomyces hydrogenans, and the reduction occurred by transfer of hydrogen from the B-side of NADH. A kinetic investigation of cortisol, cortisone, cortexolone, and the 21-aldehydes of each indicated: (a) the magnitude of the Michaelis ...

An Approach towards the synthesis of furo[3,4-c]pyrazole [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Synthesis of pyrazole and its N-aryl analogues has been a subject of consistent interest because of the wide applications of such heterocycles in pharmaceutical as well as in agrochemical industry.

Characterization of three 2-hydroxy-acid dehydrogenases in the context of a biotechnological approach to short-circuit photorespiration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Photorespiration results from the incorporation of oxygen into ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate due to the failure of RuBisCO to properly discriminate between oxygen and carbon dioxide.
