An Efficient Quasi‐Static Condensation‐Based Framework for Seismic Analysis of Multi‐Supported Secondary Structures

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Multi‐supported non‐structural components (NSCs) are prone to seismic damage, yet their response prediction remains challenging when support motions are spatially incoherent. This study proposes an enhanced quasi‐static condensation (EQSC) method for linear, lightweight, dynamically detuned multi‐supported NSCs under the neglect of primary ...

Who Knows Best What the Next Year Will Hold for You? The Validity of Direct and Personality‐based Predictions of Future Life Experiences Across Different Perceivers

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Personality, EarlyView., 2020
Abstract This study explored the validity of person judgements by targets and their acquaintances (‘informants’) in longitudinally predicting a broad range of psychologically meaningful life experiences. Judgements were gathered from four sources (targets, N = 189; and three types of informants, N = 1352), and their relative predictive validity was ...

Computing all integer solutions of a genus 1 equation

open access: yes
The Elliptic Logarithm Method has been applied with great successto the problem of computing all integer solutions of equations ofdegree 3 and 4 defining elliptic curves. We extend this methodto include any equation f(u,v)=0 that defines a curve of genus

Influence of Structural and Environmental Parameters on Solar Air Collector Performance

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Increasing air gap depth and mass flow rate significantly enhances the thermal performance of solar air collectors, with optimal performance achieved at an 8.5 cm air gap and 0.01318 kg/s mass flow rate. Air gap depth is identified as the dominant factor influencing system efficiency.

Subspace Acceleration for Efficient Nonlinear Water Wave Simulation

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, EarlyView.
We introduce an exponentially weighted subspace acceleration technique to reduce GMRES iterations for solving the Poisson equation with time‐dependent coefficients in nonlinear, dispersive free‐surface flows governed by the incompressible Navier‐Stokes equations. The method significantly reduces memory requirements and computational complexity compared

Subsymmetric Polynomials on Banach Spaces and Their Applications

open access: yesMathematics
We investigate algebraic and topological properties of subsymmetric polynomials on finite- and infinite-dimensional spaces. In particular, we focus on the problem of the existence of an algebraic basis in the algebra of subsymmetric polynomials, as well ...

Algebraic thinking

open access: yes, 2018
Algebra is one of the most extensively researched areas in mathematics education. Over the past 40 years, many researchers have addressed the problems associated with the learning and teaching of algebra in school and beyond.

Assessing the Estimands and Estimates of Hospitalization Rates in Health Economics and Clinical Medicine

open access: yesHealth Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Even though data on hospital admissions are widely used in health research, hospitalization‐related estimands measured using these data are not always clearly conceptualized. Consequently, estimators of these quantities can have unclear rationales and undesirable properties.

On the description and identifiability analysis of experiments with mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In a mixture experiment the collinearity problems, implied by the sum to one functional relationship among the factors, have strong consequences on the identification and analysis of regression models for such designs.

How Is FinTech Shaping Household Portfolio Behaviour?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Finance &Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines how FinTech adoption influences household portfolio allocation across major advanced economies. Using a flow‐of‐funds framework and the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS), we model household demand for currency, deposits, loans, debt securities, and equity in the United States, United Kingdom, Euro Area, Japan and Australia.
