Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.

Computing zeta functions via p-adic cohomology
We survey some recent applications of p-adic cohomology to machine computation of zeta functions of algebraic varieties over finite fields of small characteristic, and suggest some new avenues for further exploration.Comment: 18 pages; to appear in the ...

A differential representation of cosmological wavefunctions
Our understanding of quantum field theory rests largely on explicit and controlled calculations in perturbation theory. Because of this, much recent effort has been devoted to improve our grasp of perturbative techniques on cosmological spacetimes. While

Twinlike models with identical linear fluctuation spectra
Recently, the possibility of so-called twinlike field theories has been demonstrated, that is, of different field theories which share the same topological defect solution with the same energy density.

On solving norm equations in global function fields
The potential of solving norm equations is crucial for a variety of applications of algebraic number theory, especially in cryptography. In this article we develop general effective methods for that task in global function fields for the first time.

Genome‐Wide by Lifetime Environment Interaction Studies of Brain Imaging Phenotypes
This study explores genome‐wide by lifetime environment interactions on brain imaging phenotypes. Gene‐environment interactions explain more phenotypic variance than main effects, pinpoint regulatory variants, and reveal exposure‐specific biological pathways.

The Euclidean distance degree of an algebraic variety [PDF]
The nearest point map of a real algebraic variety with respect to Euclidean distance is an algebraic function. For instance, for varieties of low rank matrices, the Eckart-Young Theorem states that this map is given by the singular value decomposition ...

HIERARCHY OF ALGEBRAIC BAYESIAN NETWORK GLOBAL STRUCTURES AS A SYSTEM OF GRAPHS AND HYPERGRAPHS [PDF]
Algebraic Bayesian networks are logical and probabilistic graphical models which make it possible to perform logical and probabilistic inference for knowledge uncertainty formalized via scalar and interval truth values of propositional formulae.

New restricted and extended soft set operations: restricted gamma and extended gamma operations [PDF]
Soft set theory has been well-known as an innovative approach to managing uncertainty-related problems and modelling uncertainty since Molodtsov introduced it in 1999. It has been applied in a variety of contexts, both theoretical and practical. The core
