Bioacetylation of seaweed alginate [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1995
Seaweed alginate was acetylated by intact, resting cells of Pseudomonas syringae ATCC 19304. Maximum acetylation of this polymer occurred at a pH of 6.0 and a temperature of 25 deg C. Aeration and gluconic acid were required for an optimal reaction. A reactor which contained carbon-immobilized cells was constructed to continuously acetylate alginate ...

Mechanically Adaptable High‐Performance p(SBMA‐MMA) Copolymer Hydrogel with Iron (II/III) Perchlorate for Wearable Thermocell Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
A high‐performance n‐type element for quasi‐solid‐state thermocells has been introduced, outperforming conventional p‐type elements and showcasing the potential to harness body heat as an energy source or power embedded sensors. This advance significantly contributes to waste thermal energy harvesting and wearable technology, paving the way for self ...

Magnetization Enhancement in Magnetite Nanoparticles Capped with Alginic Acid [PDF]

open access: yesComposites Part B, 64 (2014) 147, 2013
We report on the effect of organic acid capping on the behavior of magnetite nanoparticles. The nanoparticles of magnetite were obtained using microwave activated process, and the magnetic properties as well as the electron magnetic resonance behavior were studied for the Fe3O4 nanoparticles capped with alginic acid.

A combination of SEM and EDX studies on a clay-based natural composite with animal fibre and its mechanical implications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A variety of natural fibres are nowadays being utilized as soil reinforcement. Test results demonstrate the positive effects of adding natural fibres to soils, in that they decrease shrinkage, reduce curing time and enhance compressive, flexural and ...

The Role of the Mucus Barrier in Digestion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Mucus forms a protective layer across a variety of epithelial surfaces. In the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, the barrier has to permit the uptake of nutrients, while excluding potential hazards, such as pathogenic bacteria.

Extracorporeal Catalytic Hemoperfusion Therapy for Refractory Septic Shock Using Ceria Nanoparticle‐Embedded Porous Microbeads

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces an extracorporeal hemoperfusion system incorporating porous microbeads embedded with autocatalytic ceria nanoparticles (CeNPs) for targeted reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging in septic shock. The blood‐compatible hemoperfusion cartridge demonstrated significant improvements in survival, hemodynamic stability, and organ ...

Resistência mecânica de hidrogéis termo-sensíveis constituídos de Alginato-Ca2+ / PNIPAAm, tipo Semi-IPN Mechanicals resistance of thermosensitive hydrogels consisting of alginate-Ca2+ / PNIPAAm, type Semi-IPN

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2007
Thermosensitive hydrogels were synthesized using alginate-Ca2+ in association with a thermosensitive polymer, such as PNIPAAm. The mechanical properties of the hydrogels were determined measuring the maximum tension of deformation.

Effective approach for taking into account interactions of quasiparticles from the low-temperature behavior of a deformed fermion-gas model [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment (2017) 043105, 2017
A deformed fermion gas model aimed at taking into account thermal and electronic properties of quasiparticle systems is devised. The model is constructed by the fermionic Fibonacci oscillators whose spectrum is given by a generalized Fibonacci sequence. We first introduce some new properties concerning the Fibonacci calculus.
